Incapable Of Learning

Maya's POV:

I internally groaned as our teacher made us open our history books

It's not like I hate the teacher, no who could ever hate Mr.Matthews??

But I certainly did hate how we actually had to learn in class

It wasn't because learning sucks, no, it's because I was basically incapable of learning

Well atleast that's what it felt like

I sat in the front of the class with Riley next to me, Lucas behind her, and farkle behind me

Now, Riley had begged me to sit in the front with her but the reason I caved was because it was a perfect excuse

Being in the front means you want to learn, meaning teachers don't call on you often

It's been 4 years since I've sat in the front of the class and my previous statement has held up

I've rarely ever been called on because of this new life hack but of course I had to jinx it

I heard an interrupting voice pulling me from my thoughts

I shake my head and focus back into the class discussion only to see everyone staring at me

I felt panic rise within me

Fuck

I looked over my shoulders for help and that's when Lucas whispered "you have to read the passage....."

I looked down wide eyed at my open textbook

I looked up to see Mr.Matthews watching me expectantly

I shake my head "I-i can't do this, Mr.matthews please call on someone else....." I beg

He looks at me sincerely and says "all you have to do is read it Maya....."

I take a deep breath and look down at the text

Ok I-I can do this......

I looked at the first word

-Ihe.......

What the fuck?!?

I opened my mouth stuttering when I heard Riley whisper "the"

I looked over at her and nodded

"The-" I repeated nervously

I looked at the next word

"-Prijans"

My eyes watered

This shouldn't be difficult but it was

The words were transforming in front of my eyes and I couldn't decode them fast enough

"Britans....." Lucas whispered across from me

"Britans....." I repeated again my voice wavering

I could feel the tears blurring my vision

Everyone was staring burning holes into my head

I looked up at the clock to see it had been 3 minutes and I've only read 2 words

The embarrassment flooded through me in waves

I stood up abruptly and ran out the classroom

I had to get out of there.......
