Zariah's POV………………….

I opened my eyes to Miles shaking me awake.

“Zariah, we’re here!”

He expression was giddy, his eyes lit up and his face looked as if he was a five year old on Christmas morning.

“We are?”

I asked, sitting up and yawning.

“Yeah, let’s go!”

He cheered, hopping out of the large truck.

“Coming.”

I mumbled, climbing out of the truck as well.

I walked around the truck, un-latching the door.

“We are at a town, everybody get a buddy.”

I called out through the truck, waking some people up in the process.

“What are we in kindergarten? We need a walking buddy?”

Brittney laughed in my face.

“You are, but if you don’t want to, we’d be happy to not have to worry about you. Get lost if you want, then you can’t blame anyone but yourself when you get lost in this strange town.”

I tried to stay calm, although on the insides, I was seething.

“Whatever.”

She mumbled.

“Zariah!”

Madeline ran after me. I had forgotten all about her.

I spun around and embraced her, feeling overjoyed that we were gonna make it.

“Madeline! Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry. I meant to stay with you!”

I said, hugging her, then pulling her away from me.

“You look pale, are you okay?”

I asked, getting a good look of her face.

“I’m okay, just hungry.”

She said, pulling my arm away from the truck.

“Be my buddy?”

She asked.

“Never.”

I replied, in a sarcastic tone.

“Haha, very funny.”

She rolled her eyes and started to walk on the side of the road.

“Wait up!”

I called, running after her.

“Miles!”

I yelled, looking around, trying to find her.

I caught up with Madeline, walking by her side.

“Miles! Where are you?”

I called.

“Maybe he went on ahead, we’ll find him.”

Madeline comforted me, rubbing my arm.

“Yeah, you’re probably right.”

I said, still not quite convinced.

“Where’s lover boy?”

I asked, squinting my eyes off behind us. Groups of up to four were walking, slowly behind us.

“Who, Marco?”

Madeline asked, a blush spreading across her face.

“Duh.”
