Did you sing yourself today?*
We are leaning into the wind,so we won't break when it blows.
We are knotting our fingers together;I am finishing the lines of your prayer.
Your palms are soft, and so are we.I am sorry that we keep melting
into each other in all the wrong ways--how to stop the echo of a pebble
after it has been tossed into a lake? How to wrangle the storm fronts
that twister in our minds? How to brush off the rust
from our silver-edged eyes?We have gotten used to watering
the flames on our tongues with saline. Please hold me: you can't make anything better,
but you won't make it worse. Together,we can catch tigers in red weather.**

*Walt Whitman- Song of Myself
**Wallace Stevens- Disillusionment of Ten O'Clock
not sure how to feel about formatting or this poem in general. & if you're fancying the lines that i stole (?), do read disillusionment because it's much much much shorter than song of myself.
