Hello there Leah! So your story idea seems interesting enough. I like the description; it’s mysterious. It really does draw the reader in.
Now, your cover… it doesn’t give off the same vibe as your description or even the title of your book. You set the genre as mystery/thriller and this just doesn’t do it for me. Set those points aside though, and you are still missing a major element: your name/username. No one can find you based on your cover, which is the whole point of having one!
Grammar really isn’t much of an issue in your book, but I have a pet peeve to point out. When using personification like you did in the first chapter, either bold it or use italics. It helps make it distinct from the other text and works a lot better than capitalization. Other than that, your writing is pretty clear. (:
Summary wise, I don’t really know what to say. I like the idea of your story, as I said before. However, it’s hard to summarize. I like how Ryan is set up to be a hero throughout the story. The song lyrics you chose to use are great; they really help shape the theme of the story. If you were heading towards more of a thriller, I think that you should go back in and add more… dark features. I would try adding more adjectives when you describe the forest.
All in all, I like the story the way it is. It’s interesting. Of course, there are a few things that could use clarification and changing, but it works rather well right now. Your cover and lack of descriptors are the main mood killers in my opinion, but I would read it again. So, an 8.0 it is. Please keep writing; you do have a skill with words. Let me know what you think below. x
