Growing Up

14 2 3

Goofing off, fooling around
Then instead of a smile, you frown

Suddenly you realize you aren't a kid
Even though the truth had hid

You look in your past and see a pile
Of all the things you've done, none worthwhile

You look at the future and cower in fear
Because the unknown is quite near

Responsibilities to your left and right
All you can imagine is how to not take flight

You don't want to grow up
You don't want to see the half empty cup

You won't have many to trust
But you know that you must

Wasn't it just yesterday you were a child?
Running around free and so wild?

Where did the time go, when did it pass?
You kept lying to yourself, saying it would last

Jobs, bills, stress, and more
Sometimes even being poor

Terrified and shaking in your boots
Noone around you giving a hoot

Who will support you, who can you turn to?
As an adult, can you only trust you?

Will you lose your friends?
Will all your friendships end?

Will you end up crammed in a tiny box
Living in a tiny place like a fox?

Will you have time to enjoy being you?
Or will adulthood consume you, as you fear is true?

Getting a job is stress upon stress
Every working day your mind a mess

You tell yourself "I can do it!"
But you are scared you'll crumble bit by bit

Curling up and staying home
Going out and starting to roam

One from childhood
One from adulthood

You stare at the door
Counting your breaths, 1 2 3 4

You take a deep breath and open it wide
And step through, looking around with big eyes

Hey it's ya boi Cassia!

It's been quite a while since I updated my poetry, and I decided to write one about adulthood, due to some recent events going on in my life.

But anyways, I hope y'all like it!

Until next time,
