With a heavy sigh, Morty sat up in his chair, stretching his arms above his head and dropping his pen in the process.

The light on his desk was very dim. He would have to change the bulb soon. "Well, guess that's it for tonight." He stood, grabbing his pen and journal. He shut the pages, happy with the ten chapters he had written.

College life was hard. He was thankful for the little breaks like this.

Packing his bag, he made his way outside, dutifully kissing Daemon goodbye before he hopped into a cab, wondering when he would find the courage to leave the degrading bastard.

"Where you off to, kid?" The cabbie turned to look at him.

Morty threw an address at him, "I'm heading home. Haven't seen my family in a few months, and I have a really good friend waiting for me."

The cabbie nodded in understanding as they took off towards Morty's home for Christmas vacation. Patting the journal in the side pouch of his bag, he let himself drift to sleep, telling the driver to wake him when they arrived.

He couldn't wait to see Rick as he twisted the protective band wrapped around his pinkie.
