I pulled the blankets closer to me, hoping the warmth would drown out my world, but unfortunately another crack of lightning sent me jolting and shaking. It's just a storm, I tried to convince myself, but another lightning beamed across the sky and I ran down to the kitchen, dialing Darry's number.
"Hello?" He asked in a groggy voice.
"H-hi," I stuttered, shaking so badly the blanket could hardly stay on my shoulders.
"What's wrong?" He asked sympathetically.
"S-s-storm." I heard him sigh through the other line, as if it were relief that something bigger didn't happen.
"I'll be over, just get in bed and don't worry about it," he soothed and I nodded, although I knew he couldn't hear me.
"I love you, hun," he said in a soothing voice that I was sure he used on Soda when he was scared.
"I love you too, Dar," I whispered and hung up the phone.
I stumbled back into the bedroom, dragging my feet behind me, and wrapped up in the bed again. More lightning flashed across the sky and I pulled my knees to my chest. That's how Darry found me. "Awe, hun,"
He whimpered, crawling onto the other side of my bed. I snuggled deeply into his chest and he wrapped an arm around me.
"Ya know, it's just a storm, it'll come and go and you'll be okay." I shrug, not believing him. "I mean, I could call Pony and-" I cut him off by shaking my head.
I knew he'd call Pony and make him explain how a storm works in the most scientific way. Then Pony would be mad because he couldn't sleep and Darry would be mad because Pony was mad, then I'd have two mad Curtis boys on my hands. So, I shook my head at my boyfriend who had a wild grin on his face. I nuzzled closer into him and he tightened his grip on me.
"Really though, you won't get hurt. I'm right here to make sure of it," he whispers, kissing my head and playing with my hair. I nod, finally convinced by him. "Have I ever told you how much I love you?" He asks.
"Not today," I mutter, a smirk crawling across my face.
"Well..." he trails off, whispering reasons why he loves me in my ear and kissing my cheek. I giggle when he does and he smiles into the kiss. I completely forgot about the storm exploding outside and fall asleep in Darry's arms.
"I love you too, Dar Bear," I mumble before sleep takes over.
