A/N: this happens immediately
after civil war

After ringing the doorbell, you waited anxiously for the door to open, hopping from one foot to the other while trying to shield your body from the crisp wintry air. You sighed, watching your breath as it frosted into a mini clouds. Shivering from the cold wind, you were immediately whacked with warm air when the door opened.

"Um, why are you here?" T'Challa yawned tiredly, glancing at his wristwatch. "It's like, three in the morning."

"Because we're friends, and I wanna pet your cat." You stated, hopefully giving a good enough of a reason to let him invite you into the manor.

"We've known each other for less than a week."

"But... cat." Your eyes dropped, pouting when you looked past him into his manor and caught three cats dashing around. One was a golden orange with white fluffs sticking from underneath it, and another was a royal gray with a white line of mismatched ebony and ivory fur surrounding its neck and teeny tiny puffs of whites surrounding its pink snout. The third one blurred out into a black lump of buzz as it dashed across the room, diving under T'Challa's parted legs and situating itself at your feet. It started to softly purr at you, and you spared T'Challa a look.

"I see two more fellas were added to the fam." You chuckled, bending down to pet the black cat as it stared at you with its stygan dark eyes. It seemed like it had dubbed you as a friend for now.

T'Challa sighed, firmly squeezing his lips while wracking his brain to find an excuse as to why there were two more felines waltzing through his manor like they owned every inch of it. Sighing again, T'Challa started, "I am short on words, though I have to tell you: just look at them! Their eyes speak volumes." He pointed at the black cat that was still perched on your shoes. Its dark eyes were slowly gravitating you into the abyss of darkness.

"I know! Like, ugh, that's why I came here in the first place! To! Pet! The! Cat! Though I must say, it's a pleasant surprise seeing the other two," you mused, tapping your lips. "You've got a sophisticated taste in cats. Mhm."

"Well, of course," he smirked, agreeing with you. "Now, why don't you come in? You look like you are one breath away from freezing."

You smiled at him and picked up the black cat, before following him through the entrance.

Smiling back at you, T'Challa said, "I'm sure you would like us to get acquainted over a mug of hot chocolate and marshmallows to warm up and pet the cats."

"Yes, please! That'd be lovely!" You beamed at him, already getting yourself comfy on the sofa and huddling up between the cushions and soft pillows with the cats on your lap.

T'Challa continued walking, dipping through a doorway to go and fetch the hot beverages. You heard rummages through the kitchen closets and drawers and a switch flipping on then flipping back off shortly before watching T'Challa emerging back into the living room with two muted blue mugs of  hot chocolate.

T'challa took a seat next to you. "Here you go." He handed you your mug, and you thanked him.

"So starting with the cats' names?" You looked at T'Challa, tilting your head to the side.

"Yes, the gray one is called Ms. Charmin. She looks like she is a descendant from a royal bloodline." He mused, scratching the back of said cat's ears. She yawned and nuzzled up next to T'Challa's thigh. "This one," he held the golden orange cat up, "is called Chicken McGolden Nuggets because whenever there is a whiff of chicken cooking, you turn around and see him staring at you to give him some." T'challa let go of Nuggets, Nuggets pouncing back onto your lap and snuggling up against your palm. "And lastly, Sir Sugar Rush. Always 'gotta blast' as what Shuri would say. You would never see him staying put in the same spot twice. Though I was impressed when he sat on your feet and willingly let you pick him up that easily." He said, now watching Sugar pounce around the room like a fuzzed up soda can.

"Well, what can I say? Seems like I'm very likable all around." You grinned, and T'Challa shook his head. "Also, the names are so fitting! Who chose them?"

"By yours truly," T'Challa paused dramatically, placing a hand on his chest before looking at you from under his lashes, "me, of course. Though Nuggets' was suggested by Shuri."

You laughed a little, your laugh infecting him into a laughing fit of his own before soon joining you in your full on blasts of laughs.

The past-midnight hours dragged out onto sips of the many warm mugs of hot chocolate,  small chats, and long conversations ranging from the cats' most heinous shenanigans, to stupid slip ups during missions, to what silly antics the Avengers HQ residents were up to, and to what the latest pranks his sister, Shuri, had pulled on him.

Soon, five warm bodies peacefully slumped against each other as they all were lulled into dreamland.
