I've seen a lot of people claim that the only reason why Super is loved so much is because it's canon, or say that GT is better because the animation and story is better. Today, I'm here to say otherwise.
Story: Now, the true story of Dragon Ball GT is about Goku, Pan, and Trunks traveling the universe in search of the Black Star Dragon Balls to wish Goku back to normal after he was wished into a kid. On paper, this had a limitless amount of potential to be a good story, and, overall, it was pretty decent. Although the first few arcs seemed basic, as the show progressed, the better it got. However, the characters were bland and generic and almost felt like it wasn't Dragon Ball at times. The Black Star Dragon Ball Saga was very generic and boring. The world they built felt so unlike Dragon Ball and more like Trigun-ish (although Trigun was a great series). The Baby Vegeta Saga was slightly better, but the execution of the show made it worse and the Super Android 17 Saga had the best storyline, but was just too short. Lastly for GT, the Shadow Dragon Saga. Now, in terms of action, that saga would be considered the best, however it had it's own flaws and the designs seemed un-Toriyama like for some of the Dragons. It did have the perfect ending for Dragon Ball though. Won't argue that.
Now onto Super, the Battle of Gods arc, in my opinion, was better than the movie because it gave us bit more insight on who Beerus is and how powerful he is compared to everyone else. It also gage us a Universe busting Goku. The RoF saga is probably the worst saga due to it's poor execution and lack of story. It was a typical revenge story that seemed rushed. The next saga, the Universe 6 saga was definitely your stereotypical tournament arc, however, we got amazing fights and new powers and abilities from a universe that will hopefully be explored one day. Not only that, we got the most beautiful summoning of a dragon and the introduction of Zeno "the God of Dragon Ball". Lastly, best arc of Super, the Black Goku saga. This saga has probably the best STORY in all of Dragon Ball. It brought back a beloved character and gave us a true villain whose motive wasn't to become the most feared in the universe. We got more layers of the "god hierarchy" and probably the best fights in the series. We also got character development for Future Trunks and Kid Trunks. This saga kick started Gohan to be great again and gave us the most badass ending to an arc in Dragon Ball, ever. The Universe Survival Saga, although it's a little slow, it has the most potential as a saga. It has created character development for Goku, Gohan, Krillin, Vegeta, Android 17, and more. It is also introducing us to a plethora of characters from each universe such as the warriors of those Universes, their Gods, and what they look like in comparison to Universe 7. The world building feels like Dragon Ball and not like another anime.
Animation: For both it's a bit of a tie until we reach the U6 arc of Super. For GT, you could tell that they were under budget in the making of it and the same went for Super until the U6 saga in which the art got progressively better. Heck, even the episodes like episode 5 got cleaned up once they received a larger budget due to the success of the series. Here is an image from RoF Saga and an image from the Universe Survival Saga. Success: There's a reason why Super had lasted and will be much longer than GT. It's successful. After episode 3 of GT, sales and TV ratings plummeted, but as for Super, the sales and rating just keep rising with each new episode. Super made Dragon Ball popular again. After its release, there has been an increase in merchandise for the series such as t-shirts, video games (Xenoverse 1 and 2), mobile games (Dokkan), manga, and action figures. It has gotten so big that Shuesha had to create a whole new department dedicated to the series. Not only this, but for the first time in 10 YEARS, Super is the ONLY anime to top One Piece in ratings, TWICE. If that's not success, then I don't know what is.
Conclusion: Yes, most of this was opinion based, but as I said before, there's a reason why this series is green lit for about a 100 episodes now. Because it is successful unlike GT. It has brought back old fans and brought in new fans. Every week, millions of fans tune in to watch a new episode of the true successor to Dragon Ball Z. It is an amazing show that is looked down upon for terrible reasons and must be stopped. GT ended at 64 episodes, Super won't. That's just how it will be. GT forever will be the CANCER of Dragon Ball.
