In the modern era of entertainment in general, there's been a rise in the number of fandoms that exist. Almost every mainstream series whether it be novels, manga/anime, comics, games, etc. have some sort of fandom. Most of the fans within these fandoms are cool and nice people, but with everything in life, there's always something evil. In the case of fandoms, those are elitists.
Elitists are those who believe that their fandom is the best fandom to have ever existed. (I'm looking at you Dragon Ball, One Piece, Steven Universe and My Little Pony fans. Although still a minority, y'all got some of the most elitists.) However, that's just their opinion and that's fine, but what makes them the dark spot in EVERY fandom is when they go out and PERSONALLY attack fans of other series. Calling them "idiots" and "dumbasses" and such all because the victim likes a different series from the elitist. That just makes me sad more than anything. There's a difference between criticizing a series for its flaw and attacking the fans of said series.
Before I go on with the rest of my little rant, let me ask you a question: Have you entered fandom before it became mainstream? Most of you would say, no, but there are some who would say yes. (I, myself believe that I'm currently in a fandom that will most likely explode the moment it gets an anime in the Promised Neverland.) If you answered yes, then you'd know how calm and nice the fandom was before it blew up. The fans were kindhearted and understood each other. Then, all of a sudden, a flood of new "fans" will pop out of nowhere and slowly give the fandom a bad reputation. Among those new "fans" are the elitists who will attack you for even saying something that isn't fully positive.
Let's take the One Piece fandom, for instance. I, personally love One Piece and its ever-expanding world and well-written characters, but the elitists of the One Piece fandom are severely ruining the series for me. An example of one of these elitists is a YouTuber named Thejorishae who personally attacked Jaymes Hanson (A Bleach YouTuber). Thejorishae is a very mild elitist, but let me just show you what I mean:
Now, let me remind you that this is MILD. I've heard stories of elitists of the My Little Pony fandom making fun of little girls at Build-a-Bear because a certain character "wouldn't wear that". Then there's the one where a Brony borderline raped a girl and was applauded for it by elitist My Little Pony fans. (Highlighted in the following video).
As a Dragon Ball fan, I've seen many elitists in my day. Especially when I would say that *insert character name here* would beat Goku. However, as of late, the Dragon Ball elitists group is slowly getting smaller as the fanbase and the series as a whole expands.
At the end of the day, let's be glad that in most cases, the elitist group is a minority of the fandom. My question for everyone is: What is your opinion on elitists? Have you ever encountered one? Which fandom do you think has the worst elitists? (Personally, I'd say My Little Pony.)
Have a great day and if you see an elitist attacking anyone, please report them the best you can. See ya!
