Shattered

Let me rest in pieces,
I want to feel myself breaking,
Don’t try to fix me,
I want to feel my fragments scattered, aching.

Watch as the strangers pass through,
A part of her going with them,
Reflecting what everyone got used to,
Nowhere left for myself to fit in.

When she fell, I was what was left,
And everyone could see her face in me.
Broken and torn, darkened in the shadow she cast,
I’ve become more than I was originally.

So I’ll disappear, inside this mask,
Sewn from the porcelain pieces of the past,
I’ll make sure to cover the cracks,
So no one finds my image in the mirror’s casts.

And these shards are evidence that she’ll never leave,
Because it’s a shattered mirror holding both our images,
And I will never let go of her, so please,
Don’t bother trying to repair the damages.

And her ripped wings will fly again,
As I repair mine for her,
Her skin will be reborn,
As I mold myself to become the cure.

For this sickness, that rocks these bodies and souls,
For all the hollow houses filled with bones,
For the ones who could not do it alone,
It’s time to show them whom I hold.

If I’m worn and dull after some years,
Don’t worry, for I’ll still reflect the memories,
Of her and what life would be like if she were here,
So that no one else has to feel so empty.

Her resurrection will be wrought in me,
I’ll become what she once was,
And when it’s time for me to retreat,
I’ll leave her for you all to love.

But this cage is already giving in to Death’s temptations,
It’s carrying too much weight that cannot be held,
I can feel the shards biting at the outsides of her soul’s encasing,
She wants out, wants free, the others can tell.

Much of this mask has become so distorted,
That they can’t see anyone anymore,
My soul has become so contorted,
We don’t know who I am anymore.

Because they took her memories with them,
Leaving none for myself,
I wonder, who will I become,
When they’ve taken all of her that’s left?
