You lead me to the guillotine,
Killed me with innocent words,
Let me relive all of your pain,
Showed me what it’s like to really hurt.

You taught me how to hate to love,
But, so far, I’ve learned just to doubt.
I hope that I’ll never be like you,
And kill off any emotion that is found.

You began to strike out at your past,
You made it the one to blame,
But I will tell you, after hearing that,
That you are the reason for all your pains.

You let the memories linger,
You let them infect your soul,
You let them take you deep within,
You built up walls, became so cold.

You doubted yourself, your heart,
You became unsure of your love for me,
You isolated yourself behind your walls,
Protected yourself as if I were an enemy.

You let me go and ran,
You never even looked back,
You opened up to someone else,
You finally felt what I once I had.

And then your gentle hands pushed me,
Drove me away with such ease,
You let me fall into protective hands,
Made sure I was safe before you released.

Your actions seemed cruel at first,
But now I see behind the veil,
That you cared for me all along,
And now those memories will never pale.

I’ll always remember your kindness.
Your love, greater than I could have seen,
Has taught me to live again and hope,
That this was what was meant to be.
