"Elijah? Helloooo, Elijah, are you with me? Did you hear what I've said?" A hand was waving around in front of his eyes and Elijah blinked.

"W-what?", he stammered. Freya was standing in front of him, her arms now folded in front of her chest. There was a mix of concern and amusement on her face.

"Are you alright?", she asked back. Since weeks, her younger brother was absent-minded a lot and that wasn't like Elijah.

He sighed now. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm alright", he eventually murmured, but Freya didn't believe him.

"Sure, you're alright. That's why your mind is wandering off to Y/N all the time", she sarcastically said and Elijah rolled his eyes at her. Freya settled on the couch next to her brother and put a hand on his shoulder.

"You're missing her, right?"

Elijah nodded. Oh, how much he missed Y/N. It had been three months since Y/N had gone back into the ocean and left Elijah alone onshore. He had known from the beginning, that she would have to leave again and that he'd miss her. But it was even worse than he had imagined. All day long and all night long he was thinking of her.

Three more months he would have to wait for Y/N to return. But...would she return? What if she had started to love the sea again and had already forgotten about him?

"Hey, what's on your mind?", Freya asked. She was really worried about her brother. But Elijah gave her a slight smile.

"I miss her a lot but...there's nothing I can do about it. All I can do is waiting and hoping that she'll come back and didn't forget me."

"Elijah, she won't forget you, I'm sure. I have seen you two together and she seemed to be in love with you. She'll come back." Freya pressed a quick kiss on Elijah's cheek and then left.

Elijah remained in the living room for a while longer, before he got up again and left the Mikaelson mansion. He needed to get out of this house, out of this city. For a moment, he thought of using his supernatural vampire powers and just run to the sea, but then he changed his mind and took the car.

Half an hour later, Elijah stopped at the beach and walked down to the water. Only a few people were here, having fun. He took off his shoes and stepped into the water. He could feel the cold sea rushing over his feet and closed his eyes. It wasn't the first time he'd come here during those last three months. Whenever Elijah was standing in the water, it was as if he could feel Y/N close. Maybe she was out there somewhere. And when he closed his eyes he could see her in front of him, with that beautiful, long ginger hair and that infectious smile. He sighed. How much he missed to let his fingers run through her hair and kiss her pale cheeks or red lips!

Elijah opened his eyes again and let them wander over the ocean, in hope to maybe see her somewhere. Or that he'd recognize a sign of hers that she hadn't forgotten about him yet. But there was nothing. "I miss you", he whispered into the wind before he let himself sink into the sand. He didn't feel like going back into the city yet. He still had hope, although it faded more and more everyday.

No, she wouldn't forget about him. She'd come back. She had promised and he believed that she kept her words. She wouldn't just leave him like that, Elijah tried to encourage himself. But he couldn't be sure. He didn't know enough about mermaids to be sure about anything that had to do with Y/N.

The sun was already going down when Elijah finally went back to his car and drove home again. Sometimes he couldn't believe that he really had fallen in love with a mermaid. Someone who couldn't stay with him forever, who had always to follow the call of the sea. And then he thought that it would be better to forget her, to get over her and go on with his eternal life. But Elijah couldn't, no matter how hard he tried.

"Hey, brother", a voice sounded and pulled Elijah out of his thoughts once again. He had just stepped inside the mansion when Klaus came walking towards him.

"Hey", Elijah just murmured and hurried to get upstairs into his room. He didn't want to talk to Klaus. Maybe he would have some family emergency that had come up while Elijah had been gone and he just couldn't deal with that right now.

"Elijah, what the fuck is going on?", Klaus shouted, but Elijah didn't react. His brother knew exactly what was going on. His whole family knew. They had seen him with Y/N, they knew what she meant to him and that he was concerned he would never see her again.

Elijah had just closed his door, when it opened again and Freya stepped in. "Did Klaus send you?", Elijah murmured as he let himself fall on the bed.

Freya nodded and joined him on the bed. "Talk to me, Elijah. I know Y/N's absence is bothering you more than you'd confess", she softly said.

"I don't know what I should tell you, Freya", Elijah sighed.

"Try it", she encouraged him.

"I'm living since so many years now...and I have had a lot of women that I thought I'd love. But Y/N...what I feel for her is rare. And I...I don't know how this happened. We didn't even have a lot of time together. But I fell for her so fast and of all things she has to be a mermaid who can't stay here!" Elijah threw his hands up in the air.

"I guess I'll wait for her forever, no matter how long it takes for Y/N to return. If she even will. Who knows that?" He shrugged.

"But you believe that she'll return, don't you?", Freya quietly said as she put a hand on her brother's shoulder.

"Yeah, I do. At least, most of the time."

"That's why you drive to the sea so often, lately. You hope to see her out there somewhere", Freya reasoned Elijah's behavior. She was good, Elijah thought as he nodded again.

"I step into the water and hope that she feels my presence, no matter where she is. And that she doesn't forget me that way", he confessed and Freya couldn't help but smile.

"That sounds great. And Elijah...she'll come back. I know it." With those words, Freya stood up again and left Elijah alone. He suffered right now, but he'd be alright again. She had to know it, she was a witch, and a damn good one.
