Do you remember?

How you were the first to notice my preferences.

Everyone assumed that I liked chocolate milk. I didn't hate it. I just got tired of it after a while. I was sure I would like it again.

When my friends stood up from their chairs, they asked me the same question each lunch break.

"The usual?"

I would nod slightly and they would walk to the nearest vending machine.I tagged along with them.

I stood there, watching them grab the cans of soft drinks and when they hand me the rectangular carton of chocolate milk, I would smile, taking a last glance at the yellow cylinder can behind the display glass.

That end of the lunch break my friends would go first, telling me that they needed to go change into their next period.

It was the last 5 minutes of the lunch break, you came walking around, I could see you taming the corners of your small smile as you approached me, head low with your hands behind your back.

You sat the small can onto the table. You walked away.

The small yellow cylinder stared back at me. You had placed that can of lemonade before me.

It was that sour but sweet taste that enthralled me.
