light

///

solis pushes gold onto the carpet

the walls are milky, like my teeth

jesus sits next to time

the bible watches static tv on the couch

and prayer rests on the dining table

///

dark

///

i think my mother is going to die

my grandmother cries in the bedroom

because there's a monster in the house

and he's bringing in all the damn demons

///

preacher

///

i think i'm going to die

the nail on my middle finger

was purple and the purple fell off

at least now if i die,

i can die healed

///

daughter

///

there's a storm a'coming

and the stomps close in,

but jesus is here

if only he could blast

these monsters,

or at least he could let me live

///

resurrection

///

death knows me

and so does that monster

i grab a sword and the bible

and i fight for life

angels folk to my side

and we form an army

///

father

///

blood and guts

and bruises

and tears

and sweat

but i will

fucking live!

cut them all!

graves aren't meant for me!

///

breathe

///

the monster has fallen,

alongside death,

and i know him

because i was

made of his rib

///

sun

///

i live

and as does

my mother

and my grandmother

smiles

and the angels

are here to stay

and the sun

gives the house

light
