Of Tails to Come.

Chapter 10 The First Day

After the feast had concluded a group of prefects had guided James
out of the Great Hall before he could speak to Alice, they were lead
up to the seventh floor corridor to Gryffindor tower. There was a
large fire in the grate, as many students sat around the common room
and caught up with their friends, the male prefect led the first years
to their dormitory. The beds were place in a circle with their trunks
at the end Fred's and Arthur's on ether side of James's.
James turned to look at the two other boys who entered with them, One
was a boy with sandy hair, a sharp chin and rather pointed ears. The
other was a miserable looking boy with long brown hair that fell in
front of his face. Holding his hand out to the boy with sandy hair
James said "Hello, I am James Potter.Those two are Fred and Arthur
Wesley, you are?" The sandy haired boy flashed him a friendly smile
"I'm Aes, Aes Johnson that is Adam Sutler" he gestured to the boy led
on the bed behind him. A skinny boy with lank hair turned to them
"Hey, nice to meet you." after they had all unpacked there essentials,
James placed his wand on his side table next to the picture of his
family and went to sleep.
James awoke the next morning to the sounds of his friends groaning, he
too felt the urge to stay in bed and sleep but his better judgement
told him that he was being lazy. With a groan of his own he got up and
started to get ready, within less than an hour he and the twins were
in the Great Hall eating breakfast. James noticed Alice looking upset
as she entered alone and James took instant noticed, he turned to Fred
and Arthur "Guys, did you see Alice?"
"Yeah, I wonder what's up with her?" Fred asked.
"She probably didn't sleep well and she's probably nervous about her
new surroundings.After all... she's been moved away from her friends
and dumped in the middle of somewhere new and as we all know Alice
doesn't like 'new'. " Arthur reasoned.
James sighed heavily. "Yeah I suppose you're right, we need to talk to
her as soon as possible."
"I'm sure we will James, but on a lighter note dear chaps, we get our
class times today!" Fred said excitedly.
"Wow, you actually sound excited about work! Who are you and what have
you done with my brother?" Arthur gasped.
"Oh, haha" Fred deadpaned "this is the perfect opportunity for
reconnaissance, we can find their weaknesses!"
"Weaknesses? I do hope you three aren't already planning trouble on
your first day?" Lupin said putting there timetables down in front of
them.
"Weaknesses? You must have misheard us" Fred replied quickly.
"Oh I am enhanced by an apex predator and I misheard you?" Lupin said
raising an eyebrow.
"Well you are getting old Remus..." Arthur replied.
"Professor, thank you very much, you don't want me to tell your mother
that your falling behind in your studies do you? " he replied with a
grin.
"No sir" the twins replied with a gulp.
"Very good I'll see you in your first lesson then." he smiled and moved on.
   Just as everyone was getting ready to go to their first lesson
there was a loud screech, an elegant barn owl swooped into the great
Hall and dropped a red envelope in front McGonigall. James looked at
the twins "What's that?" the twins looked at the staff table
terrified.
"That is a howler." Alice said behind James making him jump.
"How did that get here so fast?" Fred asked.
"Yeah we've only been here one night! " Arthur responded.
   Before anyone could respond the envelope jumped into the air and
unfolded it's self, and a high pitched and heavily accented voice
read.

Dear Minerva McGonigall,
I am writing to you on behalf of my daughter with regards to her house
placement, my husband Ronald has informed me that Slytherin house is
full of criminals and dark wizards.
  I do not want my beloved Honoria to be associated with that sort of
people, I do not want her to be infected by that sort of low class
scum! If you do not change her house placement as soon as possible my
husband, who is a great hero will use his considerable influence with
your ministry to force you to..........

Hagrid's large hand closed around the letter grumbling, McGonigall
simply chucked to her self patted Hagrid's arm and dismissed herself.
  James, Alice and the twins rushed to the Defence Against the Dark
Arts classroom. They took their place outside the door and Fred asked
"So what was that letter all about?"
"I kind of feel bad for her" James said.
"I don't, she's a spoiled brat." Alice spat.
"I know... but nobody deserves that sort of embarrassment." James reasoned.
  Professor Lupin opened the door and the students followed and rushed
to get seats next to their friends. James and Alice took the back
corner desks whilst the twins took the seats in front of them.
Professor Lupin stood at the head of the class facing them and said
"Greetings students, I'm Professor Lupin and I'll be your defence
against the dark arts teacher. In our first term we shall be learning
about natural hazards for any witch or wizard so are there any
questions?" a Ravenclaw students hand shot into the air "Yes, miss
Greystoke?"
"Is it true that you are a Werewolf?" Vanessa Greystoke asked.
"As always the first question asked," he said with a sigh," yes it is
Miss Greystoke but don't worry, thanks to the Wolfsbane potion I'm
completely safe. Any other questions?" A pudgy Griffindor hand shot
into the air "Yes Mr McCoy?"
"Is it true you know Harry Potter?" Lupin chuckled slightly.
"Yes I do he's a dear friend, I'm also the god father to James over
there." Everyone in the class turned to look at James causing him to
blush and sink into his seat.

And that's a new chapter down and I'm sorry for the absence, hopefully I'll have  a more regular upload schedule. Any constructive criticism is welcome and until next time have fun.
