"You're going to the party on Friday, right?" Madison Allen, my best friend said.

"Yeah, cuz like I totally don't have to do the laundry, clean the house and other stupid chores," I replied, "But it would be good not to do those chores. For once."

"But, Sophia! If you don't go, I won't go! Plus, it will be the best time of our life!" Madison exclaimed.

"Then go talk to my stepmother."

I'm Sophia Smith, currently a 17 years old learning in high school, living a normal life. I'm a brunette with green eyes, which I got from my dad. In school, I only talk to Madison since no one really knows me.

My mum died from cancer and my dad died from a car crash. They divorced before their lives ended and dad married a girl named Victoria Maxwell, who is a mother to two idiotic girls, who always messed up my life at any time as possible. I ended up living in the attic, like all of those cinderella stories.

If I don't live with them, I won't have money for college and who knows how my future will be; maybe working for them forever or sleeping by the street. Now, you might be probably thinking, why can't I stay with my best friend, Maddie? Well, first of all, her house isn't very big and secondly, I'm not even allowed to step into their house!

It's like the universe doesn't want me to be happy. The only time that I'm happy was when I was with my real parents before they got divorced and hell breaks loose.

"You know I can't do that! I can't just go up to her and say, 'Can Sophia go to the party tomorrow? You know, after all the hard works she did for you, she deserved something good,' because I think she would kick me out of the house with her stiletto into the sky and end up with lots of broken bones," Madison said as I raised an eyebrow, "Oh. I get it now."

"Exactly. But I could try and do it quickly, for my best friend."

"Or...!" Madison said, getting excited because she got a new idea.

"What?"

"It's a surprise!"

"Thank you! You of all the people should know that I hate surprises!"

"You hired your cousin to clean the house?" I hissed at her, not wanting Victoria to hear our conversation on the phone. My shocked face slowly spread into a grin, "Thank you!"

"You're welcome," Madison smiled, "Anything for my best friend to come to the party with me."

"Wait, but how will like, um, you know what, let's just say, what's your plan?"

"Well, we wait for your stupid stepmother and those idiots to go to the party first, then we will come over!"

"Wait, but Mads, I don't have a dress or anything to wear!" I wailed.

"I got a dress for you. It's green; I think it will make your eyes, you know, shine or whatever they say."

"But we're all wearing a mask."

"Oh yeah. Sorry. I've got blue but it doesn't fit your look. Plus, I'm wearing that. Oh, and I'm bringing you a blonde wig so, you know, your stepmother won't get suspicious of you."

"Nevermind. What's the plan?"

"You can go up to that guy you like and sing him a song or something! If he likes the song, then you can take off your mask! My plan is perfect."

"How do you know he's going?"

"Oh, I overheard him talking to other people."

"You mean eavesdropping."

"Hey, at least I got that piece of information!"
