Chapter II

I ran faster than I had in my life, but I could still hear the heavy breathing of the wolf behind me. I mentally cursed my wolf for not coming out yet. I was already 17 years old, but I had still not shifted. The average wolf shifts at 16. My mom called me a "late bloomer," but the rest of pack considered me to be the runt.

My mom. What if she's torn apart like the other wolves I saw?

My heart nearly shattered at the thought.

'Alive or dead, this is what she will want me to do,' I thought; pushing myself to run faster.

After a few minutes, I heard the panting of the rogue receeding, and it gradually became silence.

I was still too scared to stop. I kept running. My feet felt like they would fly off at any second, but I just pushed myself harder. It soon became dark.

I heard a growl to my left. I gasped and stopped. I looked, and saw a sandy brown wolf glaring at me.

A/N: Sorry the chapters are so short! I just want to ease you guys into them. I'll update really often though, I promise.
