I shrugged looking down at my shoes for some sort of answer.
Why is life so hard?
"Maybe the glazed one? I don't know... Yeah I'll take the chocolate one" I spoke to the lady with pursed lips hoping this will calm my cravings.
"And a glazed one" I smiled widely, she glared at me seeming as this is the fourth time I said I wanted the glazed donut but I keep telling her to put it back.
"Okay, I'm not putting it back, here" she pushed the box into my hands, it was filled with a dozen donuts, all chocolate and glazed.
I quickly paid and got out of there before any kids from my school walked in there. Who knows weather one would try and talk to me while I stuffed my face.
I walked home as always, the cold Chicago afternoons were my favorite.
I got my report card today, I failed English therefore I need my dad's signature. I never really got along with anybody in school being as I was one of those kids who lived in the bad side of town. I have to walk like twenty five minutes to get there but I never minded that, seeming as I was always a walker.
Especially in cold weather.
We're approaching winter break so I'm excited to stay in bed with a cup of hot chocolate and Disney movies.
I ate a donut knowing they were gonna be gone by tomorrow due to us having a weird addiction to them.
My phone vibrated in my pocket, it was probably the company telling me I ran out of 4G.
But it kept on vibrating.
"What?" I spoke with my mouth full.
"Johnny got into another bar fight, I'm leaving him on the front porch to freeze his balls off" and they hung up.
It wasn't even shocked seeming as this was an everyday struggle, on the other hand...I don't know how one of the bar guys got my number.
"Jesus dad, you stink" I cringe and step over him to unlock the door but it was already unlocked.
"And you left the door unlocked, how fun" I shook my head and walked in, placing the donuts in the kitchen along with my stuff before I went back out and kicked him in the balls making him wake up with pain.
No worries, he's given me his consent.
"Mother fucker" he slurred his words before crawling in the house and passing out on the floor as I closed the door.
I laughed and left him a blanket before running up the stairs to chill in my room doing nothing.
But the door bell rang over and over again.
I only groan and ran back down stairs opening the door.
The familiar mop of curls appeared.
"Arent you my fathers drug dealer?"
"Yeah"
He smirked.
At me.
"Adley is it?" I nodded.
"Call me Bella" I spoke, he frowned.
"I go by my middle name Bella short for Isabella" he nodded.
"Adley it is, nice meeting you I'm Harry" he offered his hand but it only irritated me.
He's annoying.
With a sigh I shook his large hands, it sent shivers down my spine but of course I didn't let him see.
"Where's Johnny?" He asked biting down onto his lower lip, I shrugged
"On the floor behind me" I spoke moving aside to reveal my passed drugged out father. Harry nodded knowing this was probably an everyday thing.
"Wanna go for an ice cream?"
"You can't just bribe me, I'm not six" I snapped. He chuckled.
"We can eat McDonalds afterwards" I stood quiet as he stared at me. This stranger.
"And go bowling"
"That's too cliche" I cringed.
"Okay, wanna go in the tunnels by the river? Its quiet and very spacious" he smirked.
"I'm not having sex with you"
"I didnt say that"
"You intended on it" I shot back.
"So do you wanna go for ice cream or not?"
"Its cold out"
"No shit sherlock" he sassed back. I glared just as he did.
We stood there for a good minute in silence just staring at each other to see which one of us would break.
"I'll be down in five" I spoke running to my room because ice cream in cold weather always felt good.
I didnt know this man but it seems better that way. He's a stranger and he just offered ice cream, yes thank you.
