Darren's POV

I finally got a letter back! But it wasn't from Kyle...someone named Jacks?

I look at the address on the letter. Yup, it's Kyle's address, but why was this Jacks guy writing me back? Did Kyle have a new best friend? Possible boyfriend maybe? Kyle always made it very clear that he was straight and I knew all of his family so Jacks couldn't be a distant family member or whatever.

I read his letter.

~half an hour later~

I can't believe Kyle didn't tell me he moved...
Almost makes me wish we were just like normal teenagers and texted each ot-EW NO NO. I will not be "normal". I shiver at the oh so sickening thought of not being unique.

"No one has any individualism anymore..." my thoughts were interrupted by my dad who then looks at me and says, "What?" I turned around and realize I was thinking out loud again. I hate when I do that!

"Nothing dad. Just thinking to myself." I sighed.

"Well don't hurt yourself son." He said in a playful tone.

My dad always knew how to cheer me up in a weird way. I guess that's how fathers are. I shrug mentally. I excused myself from the kitchen counter and went into my room to be alone with my thoughts. I turn on my speakers, plug my aux cord into my phone and turn the volume up high enough to make my ears bleed. My dad doesn't care how loud I play my music considering most of our neighbors are 500 feet away from each other. I go on my play list and click the first song that comes to mind, Panic! At The Disco - House Of Memories. (Play at top)

I lay on my bed as the music fills my ears and feel my body relaxing and sinking into the soft mattress. Music is the only thing that makes the most sense in this world. It's made to express the emotions we sometimes cannot put into words.

Beautiful.

I suddenly remember the letter that the other guy wrote me. He told me my stories were great and that I should definitely publish my most recent short story in the school's paper. I sit up and ponder, looking at the letter sitting on my nightstand. I pick it up and read the name "Jacks". It echoed in my head and made my heart race a little. He spoke so passionately about my work and seems more interested in my stories then Kyle ever was.

Kyle stopped being interested in writing a few months back when he had writers block, for what he exclaims, "an eternity". Surprisingly dramatic for a straight guy. I clench my chest when I'm sent back to reality. The sudden realization that my best friend, for the past couple of weeks didn't even bother to tell me in anyway that he moved or would continue writing me. He basically left me high and dry. I've known Kyle almost my whole life and we've been mates for as long as I can remember...
