Bedtime

"But it's dark,
and scary."

The stories have been read,
the lullabies have stopped.
And the time of realisation that a bed
can be the one most isolate and lonely thing
has finally began to sink;
slowly, like an anchor to unkown depths.

"Don't worry my child,
close your eyes."

"But it's lonely here,
I don't want the day to end."

"Don't fret my dear,
the day is kind but darkness is your friend.
Now close your eyes and listen."

So silence falls, and rises.
In a waterless ocean it flows like waves,
Churning and soaking everything save
for the beat.
The beat; steady in a sea of silence.
A boat of rhythm riding on
troughs and peaks of quiet.
It is peaceful; with sail outstretched
and cabins warm,
its hull a work of art.

"See my dear?
No danger here.
The dark reveals your heart."

And eyelids close,
doors are shut.
In your dreams you'll have a friend,
the dark will hold you tight.

"I'll see your smile when
morning comes.
Sweet dreams my dear,
embrace the night."

Thanks so much for reading! I decided to try something a little different this time and would love to know what you think, feel free to vote if you'd like :). Hope you enjoyed it!
