What They Don't See

As he takes his place on the couch before me,
Being reluctant as usual, I look up with glee,
And meet with the gaze of the most handsomest man-
Of whom, passionate was I, possibly more than my heart could ban.

Conceited as much as my mother could seem,
Unnoticed went his charming civility's gleam,
Unknown went the politeness that he so effortlessly hid,
Yet, the way he spoke, of something I couldn't get rid.

What they don't see is what they want him to be like,
That he's capable and beautiful, and not easy to strike,
What they don't see is what they want to expect,
He's too intelligent to let them know in such a respect.

I weep for my family, with both sorrow and joy,
As when they'll know the real him, and utter a surprised 'Oh boy!'
What they wouldn't have seen would be in front of their eyes,
In my destiny, within moments, erased would be all the lies.

They've always, known him, to be rich and proud,
His estate echoing the amount of his money out quite loud,
But what they don't see is that there's more to his silence,
There's more to him for refusing them people at the ball's alliance.

He's more than just a ravishing attraction of superiority,
He's a loving brother and a master of absolute generosity,
Just because prejudice allows him to be looked upon with negativity,
Doesn't mean that he's unable of being held under love's captivity.

Finally, the minute arrives and he speaks, walking up to my father,
'I'm here to ask for something, your daughter's hand, to be rather.'
The brows rise, astonishment circulates and I tense up to the measure,
The reply, I've been waiting for, comes unsurprisingly- 'It would be a pleasure.'

I based this poem on two characters from the book 'Pride and Prejudice' (don't blame me for being obsessed with that story) namely Elizabeth and Mr Darcy. You'll know them if you have read the story. But all in all, this poems talks about how a girl feels when her boyfriend is finally going to make the proposal and meet the parents.
I hope you liked it and drop that precious vote and a comment on your way to read the next one!
