If you are old enough you will remember your grandmother or even mother having an afghan on the back of her couch for decoration. Sometimes maybe you could even use it to cover up with if she let you. I remember them well and still have a few afghans around my house.
Crocheting and knitting is a lost art now a days and there aren't many people left who hand make these blankets anymore. Some of the patterns were beautiful. I could only guess picking out the colors for your blanket would be was the most fun.
