"Finn, hey."
She tapped the sleepy boy laying beside her.
"Yeah?"
He rolled over onto his back to face her.
"I'm just going to head home, it's getting late."
She was offered multiple times from Finn to stay the night in a guest room, but she turned it down saying she had plans.
"Okay. Text me when you're home. And, feel better."
Smiling down at him, she ran a hand along his hair and cheek.
"Sleep tight, Finn."
With that, she slipped away.Unbuttoning the flannel she had worn to the party, y/n threw on an old Foreigner band t shirt. Rummaging through her drawers, she found some black sleep shorts to replace the ripped skinny jeans.
Sitting in the centre of her bed, her mind whirled through the nights events. My fingers were playing with the string of Finn's hoodie, while we sat talking in the quiet of the room.
"God y/n, why did we even come here tonight?"
He laughed.
"Because Jack said it would be 'a fun night filled with new memories'."
I rolled my eyes at the thought of Jack dragging us here.
Finn nodded, and looked down.
"He really cares about you, you know."
I thought back to the other night when the power went out.
"Yeah, and I care about him. Just like I care about you. My two best friends. And Jaeden of course."
We both chuckled.
"Yeah, the one who didn't come because of 'sickness'."
"Oh Jaeden. Sweet, innocent Jaeden."What came after that was too hard for y/n to recall.
Jack was drunk y/n, he wasn't himself.
And then the tears came. They kept coming. She sobbed into her hands. It was because she knew that it was her fault. She was the reason they were fighting.
There was no way that she could reverse the past, but she could help the future.Y/n didn't realize that it had been an hour since she got home, and that she forgot to text Finn. Unlocking her phone, she was met with 5 missed messages. In all of the chaos throughout her mind, she didn't hear the ringer go off.
Finn: hey, did you make it home okay?
Finn: are you alright?
Finn: do you need anything?
Finn: call me please."Fuck. I completely forgot."
Y/n: hey, I'm sorry I didn't text. It's been a rough night. Thank you for caring.
Tapping the arrow to unread messages, she saw a text from Jack.
Jack: call me when you can. I just want to talk. I understand if you're not ready to yet.
She smiled down sadly at her phone, appreciating his patience.
Y/n: meet me uptown tomorrow @ 12:30. We can talk then, okay?
No more than 10 seconds later, as if he was waiting on it; Jack responded.
Jack: thank you so much.
And then one from Finn.
Finn: of course. Sleep tight love.
Clicking off her phone she set it on the bedside table and pulled back her duvet. Laying back on the pillow, she let out a sigh of relief.
Tomorrow's a new day.Walking down the street of the main boulevard, she spotted Jack sitting at their favourite cafe.
"Jack! You seriously got a ten dollar drink?"
The small boy looked at me and shrugged.
"It looked pretty."
I rolled my eyes while giggling.
"You can't just have something because it's pretty."
"I have you.""Hey, Jack."
He looked up eagerly at the sound of her voice, the pit in his stomach growing.
Getting up from the wire style chair, he brought her in for a hug; which she gladly accepted.
Sitting across from him, sitting in front of her was the drink she first got when they discovered the hidden gem of a cafe.
"You remembered."
Letting out a dry laugh, she looked up at him.
"Well how could I forget? A mango berry smoothie with cream, one pump of sugar syrup, and a shot of caffeine for extra energy."
She blushed. Listening to him recite one of her most complicated orders.
"Oh Grazer, I'm swooning."
Her sarcastic tone made him laugh.
"As am I.""Look, Jack. I know you don't want to talk about this, but I came here to sort out everything."
After about a half an hour of fun talking, y/n wanted to do what she came here for.
"I know. And I want to fix things. I need to fix things. I miss you. I miss my quirky best friends."
She started to tear up, thinking of the group's past adventures.
"A-and you and Finn should be together. He makes you happy."
Looking up at him, she could see the pain from saying that gave him.
"Jack, I can't."
"No really; I think that if it's what's best for you, go for it. I'm not holding you back."
A few tears escaping her eyes, Jack leaned over the table, wiping them off with his thumbs.
She got up and wrapped him with a hug, sobbing into the shoulder of his jacket.
"Hey, hey. Don't cry. Beautiful people shouldn't cry."
Pulling apart from the hug, tear stained and run down; she planted a short and sweet kiss upon his lips.
It was a best friend sort of kiss.
He got his best friend back.
And he wouldn't lose her again.a/n so there's a few ways this can end.
I could do alternate endings; but I feel like that would ruin the buildup and excitement of the story. Please leave your suggestions in the comments!
