"Sweetheart?" My dad calls as he enters our apartment.

"I'm ready. I have his leash and everything." I say sadly, walking outside of my room.

"Actually," He starts. "I've done some thinking, and...you can keep the dog." He sighs.

My face lights up as I run over and give him a hug.

"Thank you, thank you!!" I squeal, squeezing his waist.

"Yeah, well...I figured it would be nice." He says simply. I smile and pull away, picking up Atlas and handing him to my dad.

"He sure is going to be big, huh?" He says, taking him and picking him up. He kicks my dad in the face and runs off.

"I don't think he likes me." He says. I snort.

"Thank you." I say.

"You're welcome, sweetheart."

I turn the page of my book, watching as Atlas rolls in the grass. His leash is looped around my wrist so he doesn't try to run away.

Peter said he would be here.

It's Thursday. Today, last week, was the day my dad told me I could keep Atlas.

I decide to call Ally. It rings four times before she answers.

"Hey." She says.

"Peter still isn't here."

"He isn't?" She asks.

"No." I reply. "Just Atlas and I."

"Call him."

"No! I can't just...call him."

"Just call him."

"No!"

"Juniper. C'mon. Don't be a wimp. Who cares? Call him." She says flatly.

"Ugh, fine." I say, before hanging up and clicking into Peter's contact. I bite my lip before I press 'call'.

He answers on the last ring.

"Hey, uh, can I call you back?" He asks. He sounds out of breath.

"Yeah, sure, but really quick, I've been waiting here for like an hour."

"Waiting where?"

"The park. You said you'd practice with me." I say bluntly.

"Practice what?" He asks. I hear a crash in the background.

"What was that?" I ask, slightly worried.

"Nothing!" He shouts. "Uh...it was nothing. Practice what, exactly?"

"Volleyball."

"Shit." I hear him mutter.

"You forgot."

"I'm so sorry. I'll be there-"

"No, Peter, it's fine. You're obviously busy."

"Juniper-"

"I get it." I sigh. "I'm busy, too."  There's a scream.

"Okay, Peter, what the hell are you doing?!" I ask, worried again.

"Nothing! I told you, it's nothing." He exclaims.

"Peter, that was a lady screaming."

"I'll meet you at the park later."

"No, that doesn't matter now, what are you-"

"Juniper. Five thirty. Park. Bye."

"Peter-"
