Step Four: Regretting

Axel looked devastated when Lynn had met him earlier that day.

He must've been getting groceries for Charlie, or so she guesses. It was a impulsive thought to grab Zach's hand and laugh with him at some poor joke he'd attempted right as Axel walked past. She had noticed him; she had seen the darkness under his eyes, the pale undertones of his skin, the frown that looked like second nature, and the droop in his shoulders.

Zach had gained the status of a rebound. He bore a striking resemblance to Axel, at least it seemed so to her. He was sweet, quirky, and rather pleasant; maybe it was because he wanted to be with her so religiously that he hadn't minded the prospect of being a possible replacement for what Lynn could never have again.

"I need to go," Lynn smiles uneasily at him, "I need to help Lisa with some school work she's been stressing about."

Zach nods. He pushes a strand of her unruly hair behind her ear and kisses her forehead.

It felt different from Axel's.

"Will I see you tonight?"

Lynn hums in reply. She turns around and walks away, with her heart in her stomach and her mind in an endless reel of regret.
