Bird in a Cage

You were just a bird,
Who was stuck in a cage,
Never allowed to say a word,
Only supposed to contain your rage.

You were just a bird,
Who was stuck in a cage,
Never allowed for a future unblurred,
Only supposed to read off the page.

You were just a bird,
Who was stuck in a cage,
Never supposed to see the sun that stirred,
Only allowed to be good for your sage.

You were in your prison so long,
By the time it had rusted and fallen to age,
You forgot how to fly and sing your song,
You plummeted to the ground with your demise a cage.
A cage you could have opened as there was no lock,
But you chose to stay in and not be with your flock.
