I don't really know where this chapter is going. Ya'll know the usual warnings, just in case I make it... scary...
David's POV (issa nightmare)
It's raining outside. The road is slick and one of my headlights is busted up. I'm not in my car - I'm in some tiny, beat up minivan. My hands are shaking because I'm wet and cold. There is a leak dripping water into my hair from the roof of the car. Suddenly a bright red car veers right in front of me. I hit the brakes, but the car keeps sliding on the wet road. I slam into the drivers seat of the car, sending mine to a sudden stop. I jolt forward from the impact. The buggy slides down the road and into a ditch. My vision blurs and the scene fades to black. When I wake up, I'm covered in blood. Somehow, I know it isn't mine. I push open the crumpled car door with ease and walk over to the car. A head hangs limp in the passengers seat. As I get closer, I hear screaming from the car.
"Mommy? Mommy? Mommy, wake up!"
A startled young boy and his crying sister are in the passengers seat. The girl looks much younger than the boy. My heart starts to pound. I've just orphaned two children. The boy has glass in his cheek and arm. He looks up at me with sad eyes.
"You killed her. You killed my mommy."
I lay down on the road, feeling the world swirling around me. I press my hands against the cold, wet pavement. Eventually the girl stops screaming, but the boy won't shut the hell up.
"You killed her. You killed my mommy. You killed her. You killed my mommy."
He says it over and over, drilling it into my head. And all I can think is that I did. I really did. A blinding white light surrounds me and I feel myself go weightless.
David's POV (real life).
I wake up alone in an empty house. I keep forgetting that I only live with Alex now. It's really weird not hearing Todd or Scott in the kitchen. I sit up, realizing that I'm drenched in sweat. My throat hurts as if I've been screaming. The dream comes back to me so hard that I stumble backwards. I'm a killer. I try to shake it out of my head, but it was so real. Too real. It takes me back to that day only a few years ago. I almost killed my girlfriend. My biggest fear is killing someone else - if probably commit suicide if that happened. I swing open the door and go to the kitchen. A bright blue piece of fabric catches my eye - Maia's safety blanket. I walk over to it and hold it up to my chest. I didn't think I'd miss her as much as I do. I sigh and toss the small blanket back on to my couch. I brew a pot of coffee and gulp down the first cup in a few minutes. I hear a knock on the door. I assume it's Alex coming home. I swing open the door to see Liza standing in the doorway, biting her nails.
"David, we have a problem."
Hahaha! Since I wrote two really long chapters and posted them close together, I'm leaving you in a short cliffhanger for a while. I need to brainstorm a ton before I even think about writing the next few chapters. Sorry not sorry 🤷🏽♀️. As always, sorry for typos.
thx babes!
