We walked around looking for something, anything before Phichit and Christophe arrive. I walked carefully around the building with Yurio close behind as we both searched around the building. All we saw was an old homeless person on the side of the road without a blanket lying unconscious. The sight made me frown and I stopped in my tracks.
I wish I had something I could give him. Something that would help him through the winter ahead. Maybe my-
I quickly run across the street without a second thought, leaving Yurio who didn't seem to notice I was gone. The man was ghostly white and his nose and fingertips had turned blue. He was shivering violently and next to his body was a small picture frame of a little girl with strawberry blonde hair and was smiling a smile that showed pure joy. She looked like a younger version of him. I smiled and pulled off my new leather jacket that Victor bought me and layed it over his frozen body.
"I wish you a safe life," I whisper as I think of all the people that I am thankful for, "I wish there was something else I could give you."
I walked away from the man and started to move over back to Yurio who was looking at me like I was crazy.
"Bless you," The old man says as I start to move across the street," You must be the angel here to forgive me of my deeds. Bless you, Angel."
I smiled and felt tears fill my eyes. I turned back to face the man, but he was gone, only a small indent in the dirt was left.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING OVER THERE!!!!" Yurio screamed at me
"I wa-" I realized if I tried to tell Yuri, he wouldn't believe me.
"I- I just thought I saw something," I say, "It was nothing. Let's just keep going."
"Where is your jacket?" Yurio asked as I returned to his side," You are going to die if we don't get you out of this weather. Forget about this stupid competition and secret. You're going back to the hotel."
"No!" I plead as I frantically look around for whatever we were supposed to look for, "Let's keep going!"
I spot something red in the mud and I race over to it and dig through the gross, damp stuff, until I reached a small, red envelope covered in brown mud.
"I found it Yuri," I say as I yank out ,the now drenched, envelope. The rain cleaned off the mud slowly and I wipe of the remnants.
"How are we going to read it now," Yurio says, "We'll rip it in half and it won't help that You're going to get hypothermia and whoever is taking care of you now is going to make me pay for you're stupid medical bills."
"We can text Yuuri and tell him that his envelope fell and that we need new instructions?" I ask as I ignore Yurio's coldness
"That sounds way too wimpy," Yurio says obviously giving up and 'letting me catch hypothermia', "How about we open it anyway and if we can't then we can go back and watch television and since I can't speak french, I can make fun of whatever they're saying on the show."
"I like that idea a lot, but I think we need to know whatever secret they're letting us know about," I laugh a little and held my arms, hoping to catch some warmth.
Worry flooded Yurio's eyes as he saw me hold myself against the cold. Yurio snatches the envelope from my hand and removes a black bobby pin from his pocket.
"I keep forgetting to put this away, okay," Yurio glares at me as he peels open the envelope carefully with the end of his bobby pin, "Stop looking at me like that. It's messing me up."
