respect

I have come across two types of respect in my life.

Two distinctly different versions of interpreting the word.

There is respect, how you treat an adult, a teacher, an individual at which you admire. Speaking with a calm voice, smiling slightly, holding an approachable façade. Easy.

Then there is respect. As in treating someone as if they have a scrap of human rights. Maybe even treating them equally. A single raised brow, lifting of the chin as if to add height. Speak slowly. Purse lips. Rest hand on hip, and if your feeling especially respectful, maybe tilt your head to right a couple inches. Perfect.

There shouldn't be an alternative meaning for a word, that literally means treating someone how they deserve to be.
