The Dark Night

The Dark Night

At any moment it can come

It takes away all pleasure

Covers and darkens the Sun

Then comes the sudden pressure

The dark night closes in

Sometimes stays for years

All temptation of sin

As though your soul was pierced

Night lingers so, you fear

You writhe full of pain

Wondering if God can hear

Any prayers that you say

Feels as if heaven was closed

Faith has withered away

The bottomless pit opened

Where you dwell night and day

“Why has Thou forsaken me?”

You scream into the night

Darkness makes it hard to see

Battle after battle you fight

On your knees pounding your fists

Knowing this is God’s will

Inside you start to slowly wish

That this life was full of frills

Out of the dark comes a Whisper

It almost passes by unnoticed

It was the voice of the Father

“Your soul shall be strengthened.”

The dark night of the soul

Meant to test your faith

In which direction will you go

When the darkness takes its place

Without a doubt those who stand

Are those who glorify the Son

When the light shines in the end

As bright as the hottest Sun

Stand! Muster up the strength

The fire must be passed

Raise up the limbs that are weak!

All the limbs should be aroused

The darkness doesn’t last forever

Light will soon shine through

Decisions you make will be eternal

They decide who you will run to

Hold on through the dark night!

Stretch your neck to look up

Soon you’ll see the light

That can only shine from the Son

**There are those who will tell you that Christians will not go through rough times, they’ll never get tempted, and that the Christians life will always look put together. What would those same Christians tell Christ, the disciples, Paul the Apostle, and all of the Old Testament prophets?

It is those times that seem dark that truly test our faith. When you have suffered an injury, when a loved one has passed away, or maybe when you’ve lost a job; it is these times that truly test your faith. When we accept Christ as Lord and Savior, He can’t instantly send us to Heaven nor can He put us in glass jars to protect us from the world or tribulations. On the contrary, He explicitly says that we will go through tribulation.

So the question truly is, who do you say He is? Is He your master, savior when the dark night comes and your faith is tested? Our dark nights define who we are and who we follow even in the secret recesses of our hearts and soul!
