Chapter 13- The Compromise
We left the house around noon. Vladimir had gone out 'to eat' so we had some time to spare. When we got there, we were way early.
"I don't know why you guys came so early. He won't be back for another 3 hours." Cameron informed us
"What, can we not spend time with family?" Nick replied
                              "He's not family."
                              "Yes."
                              "No."
                              "Yes."
                              "Nope."
I finally interrupted them, "Would shut the fuck up for five minutes?"
They immediately gave me a look of shock. 'Did he just said that?' they were thinking. And yes. I just told them to shut the fuck up.
"You'd better watch it, little human." she warned
"What are ya gonna do? Your mind tricks don't work on me." I smirked
She frustratingly said, "We'll see about that." and walked off.
Nick turned to me, "How do you know she has telepathy?"
And here we go, "About that..."
"You talked to my father, didn't you?" he yelled
                              I didn't say anything.
                              "DIDN'T YOU?" again he yelled.
"Yes. Okay? I talked to him. but only for a couple minutes, while you were gone yesterday. I didn't want you to get mad at me. You already hate me...." I trailed off
He sighed, "I don't hate you Bryce. It's actually quite the opposite. I just would like to know these things."
                              "I'm sorry."
                              "Don't be sorry." he said
"Sorry." I slipped. He smiled at me and then wrapped his big arms around me. I could feel his heart beat picking up pace.
"Why does your heart do that whenever I'm around you." I said, muffled by his soft jacket.
                              "Do what?" he asked
                              "Pick up pace."
                              "It never does that."
                              "It is right now.."
"Well you must be lucky then," I was still wrapped around his body. Even if there was nothing that could separate us, I'd still try to demolish the emptiness between us.
                              "Nick?"
                              "Yeah?"
                              "I love you."
                              "I love you more."
                              "Prove it."
We stood there in silence. It seemed like hours were ticking by. Then days flew by. And then years passed. But it all came back to that exact moment when a soft voice spoke inside my head.
                              They're coming.
                              "Whose coming?" I asked
                              "What?"
"You said 'They're coming' didn't you?"
"Bryce," Nick was backing away from me, leaving my arms yearning for his presence, "I didn't say anything."
As if right on cue, Vladimir burst through the front door, panting.
He stumbled for his words, "They-They're com-com-coming."
"Who?" Cameron was there in an instant, by Vladimir's side.
"The Buyoron." he finally got to saying.
"How do you know?" Nick intervened
"I heard it from a friend. He can tell when they come near the city, and they just entered it."
                              "Shit" I heard Nick mummble.
I realized what the fuss what all about, like an idiot. why hadn't I thought of this before,
"It's because of me." I whispered.
"No," Nick yelled, "They could come to us for a number of things."
"NO NICK DON'T YOU SEE? THEY KNOW THAT I'M HUMAN AND SECRECY IS THE FIRST THING IN YOUR RACE. I AM NOT A VAMPIRE," I choked out.
Nick stood there, about to cry. But I could see something in his eyes. An idea.
"No, Nick don't make me do that. I won't. I can't" Cameron shouted.
"Get out of my HEAD!" he shouted back.
"I am sorry that you're idea is a sick, cruel, inhumane thing to do." She shot back at him.
"Well, we're not human are we?" he raised his eyebrow.
We watched them in silence. She had a worried look on her face, Cameron, and I was starting to feel the same way.
                              "I-" Cameron started
"If you don't do it, I'll get someone else to. This is far too dangerous. I'd rather have him safe than sorry."
Cameron again, looked at him with worry.
"What is the deal, guys?" I asked.
Cameron looked at me, then back to Nick.
Nick slowly started to talk, "Well, I know we've been together for a month or so now, but I need to tell you something."
                              "What."
                              "Well...."
"Spit it out, Nick." i yelled
                              "I can't change you."
                              "Wai-" I started
"No. No buts. This is final. I am very sorry but I cannot turn you. I don't have the will in me to let that happen to such a happy soul."
"I'll be unhappy if you don't."
"No. You'll be happier. Now that you won't have any memory of it." he stared at Cameron.
                              "What?"
"I'm sorry Bryce." She said, then grabbed me by the temples.
"But I love you" was the last thing I said before everything went back to pitch dark.
