A/N: Would you guys be interested in a book of Dirk Gently Oneshots? Also I'm going away for a week so I can't guarantee normal daily updates as I don't have WiFi :(
He maintained a normal school life. Both sporty and popular yet smart and nerdy meant he had the best of both worlds, especially when you took in his secret side. The side of his life that was trying to discover what was wrong with his life, his body. Why did he have the power to control storms and manipulate electricity.
He'd gotten good over the last couple of years. At 13, he'd been a bumbling mess. Now 15, Frey had learnt the knack of how it worked, the hidden small things that weren't as obvious, like having hunches about the weather that always came true or making sure he couldn't get wet when the rain did pour down.
His best mate, Ágúst, did find it slightly weird but he didn't suspect anything. Ágúst's mind was fully focused on sport, that was the thing his life revolved around and he didn't spy long enough into Frey's private life to see the amount of time he spent alone in the forests, or the odd times when he was still learning and 'couldn't' go to sport matches every time there was a potential thunder storm on its way. The nerdy side of the school that he theorised with from time to time were much more introverted and therefore were quite invested into what Frey was hiding. Multiple times they had guessed he was hiding some kind of superpower, but Frey had nervously laughed it off each time and told them they watched too many superhero movies.
His parents had no idea anything was wrong, and he kept it that way until they went on holiday to America. It was a special treat, a chance to see what American culture was like and how English was spoken. Frey was invested in English and had already passed the GCSE with flying colours. He was looking into A-level courses and colleges that he could study at, maybe even moving away.
The trip to America was the best two weeks of Frey's life. Well, 12 days of it were. He was exhilarated - they'd gone to Disney world, up to New York, LA, Las Vegas, all the hot spots of the country and were ending on Seattle because Jón was interested in seeing the business he worked for's office in that city.
It was there that they found out. The many forests were a great escape for Frey to practise his power, make sure it hadn't rusted and he remembered all the little tricks. After all, being cooped up in a caravan for almost two weeks when you have a super power you can't use in front of your parents sucks.
Once was fine, a normal thing to do but Svanna spotted a freak lightning bolt in the middle of the forest where Frey had said he was going, and when he said he was going the next day as well, both Jón and Svanna followed him.
He was having the time of his life, standing in a clearing, bouncing the lightning off trees and whooping loudly. He brought a round of thunder and shot a lightning bolt at a tree behind him....then he heard a yelp.
His mother and father were standing there with their mouths gaping open, horrified.
""Jón, það er alveg eins og ég sagði!" (Jón, it's just like I said!) His mother exclaimed, and Frey took one look at his parents and shot off into the forest as his father made a move to get out his phone.
When he trudged back to the caravan almost half a day later, he expected an argument and a long, arduous explanation, not to be taken away by men in a black van. His mother and father stood by the side, simply watching as he struggled in the arms of people he didn't know, cursing, "Slepptu mér!" (Let me go!) as they hauled him into the van without a proper goodbye, which neither of his parents offered.
"Móðir! Faðir! Hvað ertu að gera! Leyfðu mér að kveðja." (Mother! Father! What are you doing? Let me say goodbye!)
But as they whisked him away, deep down Frey knew that he was never coming back.
