The girls were mind numbingly bored. Riggins had only sent them on one mission this week and they were seriously debating leaving, heading off to the previous year where they could have another fresh start.
Not look for Blackwing.
There was only one problem with that; both of them were too curious for them to just leave now. They were in a CIA top security base, if they left now they wouldn't have learnt anything that they might need at some point! It was practically a policy for them to collect information about the time and place - almost like a history book, just to keep track of everything and make sure that they didn't fall into an area where they were likely to get killed -there had been this one time with Vesuvius and it had gotten close.
The door was suddenly slammed open roughly, a young girl with blonde hair pushed through, kicking and fighting. When she looked up, she revealed a bloody face from fighting too much. Spitting the blood out from her mouth, she clenched her jaw as the guards, emotionless, filed out of the room.
"Sorry," She apologised, "I really just didn't want to leave my room."
"We understand," Carrie smiled, even though both of them didn't understand why the poor girl would want to be inside all day when there was a whole world to explore. She held out a hand, "I'm Carrie. This is my twin, Cassandra."
Carrie had been welcoming and kind towards the 11-year-old, but the girl recoiled and looked uncomfortable. "I don't really....do touching."
"Oh," Cass shot a look to Carrie as she put her hand down, "That's okay. What's your name?"
"Ellen Colden. Don't touch me," Ellen Colden said bluntly.
"We won't. We don't get to see people much, nowadays, but when we do, we always respect their wishes," Cass beamed. Ellen seemed slightly more at ease but still stood awkwardly.
"Look," Carrie suggested, "How's about we sit down. Talk a bit. You can sit on this bed, we'll sit on the other."
"Alright," Ellen nodded slowly, "That's okay."
They all quietly made their way over and sat on the beds.
"We're twins," Carrie began, "We travel time. Technically we weren't even born here, we were born in quite a different time."
"So why are you still here?" Ellen asked curiously, "Surely you could just leave if you wanted to?"
"We could," Cass answered honestly, "But we can't in a way. We're human, too, you see. And human nature means curiosity. That means we have to stay."
"Human," Ellen sighed, "Sometimes I really hate being human."
