The world was slowly fading to Miss Pauling. The bullets shot into her chest made blood poor out and make a red circle on her purple dress. Her eyes were fluttering opened to close as she heard very faint screams from the mercenaries in the bases. They would never be able to hear her, because the pain was so bad, it made it harder for her to speak. She was so far away from the base, that only screaming as loud as she could would reach them, but they might figure it was just one of the other mercs getting hurt. She shut her eyes, accepting the certain fate, as the voices got quieter as if the bases were moving away from her. She swallowed, letting the pain consume her.

"Miss Pauling!?" Her eyes opened slowly and adjusted to seeing Scout running towards her, faster than ever before. "Oh god, are you okay!? What happened!?" he asked, reaching the dying lady and getting down on the floor to get a better look at the wounds.

She could barely open her mouth to speak, but she managed to get something out. "Gray Mann... dragged me away... from the bases... and shot," she coughed a bit before she could finish. Scout immediately put his finger on her lips, fully understanding what happened. He looked at the distance there was from here to the bases. "Why are you out here?" she asked.

"That's not important! You are dying! I have to get you to Medic!" Scout yelled. He picked her up carefully and ran as fast as he could to the base. She started to close her eyes, hoping that Scout would make it. "Miss Pauling," he said. "Stay with me. It isn't your time yet, don't go..."

"I am trying Scout," she said weakly.

He looked up to the sky for a moment and said, "Please, god, not yet, she is too young... It's not her time." Miss Pauling opened her eyes up so she could see him. He glanced back at her, watching her weary eyes look back at him. "Listen, you are gonna be alright, just stay with me, okay?"

She nodded. "I will try," Charlotte said, closing her eyes again. A sudden thought reminded Scout that she was not hooked up to respawn, so he ran even faster and faster until he reached the base.

"Medic!" he shouted as loud as he could. "Medic!!!" he screamed louder this time. To his luck, Medic appeared from around the corner.

"What is-" Medic was shocked in mid sentence to see Miss Pauling, dying in Scout's arms. "What happened?!"

Ms. Pauling was about to explain for herself, but Scout immediately jumped in to do it for her. "Gray Mann shot her, you need to help her, Doc!" he said.

"Follow me," said the German. Scout rushed behind him to get to the respawn. He laid her down on his exam table and grabbed a bunch of supplies. "Herr Scout, I am going to need you to step out while I preform the surgery. It will be better for you to not be in here while I do surgery on her." Scout hesitated, then nodded his head and walked out anxiously.

Waiting outside only gave him more time to think of what could be happening in there. For all Scout knew, he could be doing a mega baboon heart transplant. He started to pace back and forth, bite his nails, and press his ear against the slide up door.

More thoughts rushed through the youngest class' head. Will she survive? I never even gotten to tell her that I loved her, and now she is going to die. If she does die, will she remember me in heaven? Aw, jeez, if only I could have been there sooner, to save her before he could have shot her-

His thoughts were interrupted by the Medic walking out, looking at Scout seriously. "Scout, sad to say, but she wont make it," Medic told him. Scout already had a sad and desperate expression on his face. Medic continued. "There was something about the bullets. They made them so poison would be let out a few minutes after being fired. The poison was already let out, and it is impossible to survive."

His jaw dropped. He replied, "Can I see her Doc!?" Medic looked hesitant, but Scout begged. "Please!"

"Okay."

Scout ran past the doctor and to Miss Pauling. Scout moved a bit of hair out of her face. She was barely breathing.

"It's not your time, Miss Pauling," he said.

"Scout," she started. "Thank you..."

"I didn't save you in time, though. I..." He paused. "I wasn't fast enough."

Saying something like that was hard for him. He was admitting to failing at his job, and Scout hated failing, then needing to admit to his failure.

Yet, she shook her head. "You are the fastest I have ever known, and I am happier dying here than far, far away from the base."

He smiled.

"Thank you Scout," she said faintly. Scout gripped her hand firmly.

Tears started to form in the corners of his eyes, but he wouldn't let them out. Stay strong, don't cry, he told himself. She clutched his hand with the little power she had left, and let out her last breath; the line on the heart monitor went flat, as it let out a loud and long beep. Scout stopped holding back his tears and let them fall from his eyes all the way to his neck. "Good bye, Miss Pauling," he said. He gave her hand one last squeeze, but he wouldn't let go. He just needed to be here with her. He just needed to stay with her. Scout wasn't ready to let her go, and he thought that he might never forget her.

"Scout," the Medic said. "I am sorry for your lost; the team's lost, but there is still more time in the battle, and without your help, there is no one who will get the briefcase as fast as you do."

Scout started thinking that he wasn't fast. He felt that Miss Pauling's death was his fault. After starting to actually feel a little bit of meekness (which rarely happened due to his self-absorbed attitude), he finally realized that although his speed didn't save her, he didn't kill her. Gray Mann did. So he nodded, whipped a tear away, and walked out, trying to not think about her death.

Once the rest of the team found out about Miss Pauling's death, no one was surprised in the next battle with the robots when Scout was trying his hardest anyone has ever seen him do. He showed obvious improvement, but he also showed a lot of anger towards the bots and Gray Mann; more anger than anyone else had shown towards the robotic team and their leader.

It was obvious that Scout wanted revenge.

*cries* That was so cliche

I think.

But I think it was still sad.

Tell me what you guys think. The next part isn't going to be a story, more like an update.

Thank you,
