I hate Jason too. You’ve got to remember, Jason was only at Camp for several days. And regardless of how much time he spent with the Greeks, he’s still the son of Jupiter. He’s still a Roman demigod.
His relationships with everyone are forced. Piper and him were literally forced together, and had never met before he appeared next to her on the bus (all of Piper’s memories were forged by Juno and they had no reason to get together after he got his memories back; something Riordan often conveniently forgets). He and Percy had no reason to be friends, on the contrary, they have very contrasting personalities.
And for as good a friends with Leo as Riordan would have you believe, they spend almost no time together after Lost Hero (where Leo, like Piper before him, was forced onto Jason). Nothing else would signify their friendship, and from then on, Leo is kind of left without a purpose, having no strong ties with the rest of the group.
He expects everything to be handed to him (and everything is), and he just goes along, not really caring about anything in particular. He’s a boring, sad attempt at Rick Riordan trying to make another character that’s important to the plot that’s not a carbon copy of Percy. Speaking of which…
