Why I hate Leo

Back to the characters. A lot.of people say Leo was redeemed at the end of Blood of Olympus. But if he’s an awful character for the first 4 books and most of the 5th, I don’t think that’s much to go on. But let’s get back on track: why I hate him.

First of all, he makes fun of Frank. I love Frank. And of all the ’friends’ and demigods on the Argo II, he decides to pick on Frank most of all. Frank, the innocent Canadian-Chinese shapeshifter Roman. That’s right, Roman. I have reasons to believe that Leo hates Rome and is basically racist towards them.

Obviously, Frank. He’s constantly picking at him, and Frank is only half laughing along. Leo constantly tries to avoid talking about Rome and is always more focused at making a joke at someone else’s expense.

And Hazel. Leo might have kinda had a crush on her for a little while, and all his inner dialogue trying to convince himself she’s with Frank (the Roman), it’s so forced and he clearly doesn’t believe it. And after the whole I’m-in-love-with-your-great-grandpa ordeal, he starts genuinely avoiding her. Not because she was in love with Sammy (even though that was probably part of it), but because that was when he accepted her as being Roman. Of course, I have doubts about her actually being Roman, but he still tries to send her on all these dangerous mini-quests and generally tries avoiding her. Maybe part of the reason he fell in love with Calypso so quickly was because he was desperate to get over Hazel, because he couldn't stand if he was dating Roman scum.
