Before You Start Writing...
1.) Ask yourself why you are adding a fight scene to your story?
2.) What level of realism will your fight scenes have?
3.) Research! Especially if you're writing realistic fight scenes or have characters who are supposed to be experts.
Once You Start Writing...
1.) Keep your sentences and paragraphs short to keep the story moving.
2.) Physically differentiate your combatants.
3.) Make sure the POV character has something to lose.
4.) Include fatigue and pain of fighters to improve your descriptions.
5.) Consider writing the aftermath of the scene instead of the fight itself.
6.) Try acting out your scenes.
