Eirlys/Lord Astor/A random girl that doesn't matter       {Eirly's thought}

--------------------------------------

"Lord Astor married that assistant of his because she saved him from an assassination!

She lost her sight because of it!

I have no idea he is such a nice guy!

Why did he offer his hand?

Just gave her some money! What a pity!"

{That blind wife is standing right behind you! Look around before gossiping! That's basic courtesy! This thought has been nagging at the back of my head for days. Perhaps Lord Astor really married me just because I saved him from Lucien's knight. And now I lost my vision. Maybe he married me out of pity. Will he discard me when he meets the love of his life? Like those guys in plays?}

"Stop that treacherous train of thought, you ungrateful brat!"

"My lord."

{Treacherous train of thought? Ungrateful brat? Did he read my mind again? Without my consent?}

"Did you read my mind again?

That's an invasion of privacy!"

"It didn't take a mind reader to know you are thinking something treacherous.

It's all on your face."

"I don't believe that.

You have been using that excuse for years."

"So what is bothering you, my dear Eirlys?"

"Nothing important, my lord."

"If you don't tell me, I will read your mind."

"My lord, I know you have done that already.."

"I have not.

Eirlys, such a blatant way to trick me, do you think I will fall for that?"

"Trick? What trick?"

{What a disappointment. That's what those detectives did to trick suspects to unconsciously admit their crimes. Why didn't it work on him?}

"Go on, continue to play dumb.

Let me guess. Those gossips?

Eirlys, I don't remember you being so stupid.

Or has the process of playing dumb really made you dumber?"

"It's just... just that it might be plausible.

You are tired of being attacked by those mothers and this is a perfect excuse to get married.

I am your assistant and you know I won't betray you.

You don't care about love or romance anyway.

So... it's just possible!"

"Eirlys, Eirlys.

It seems like all those plays and novels have done more harm than good."

"If I want to get away from those mothers, I have my ways.

It's really a surprise those mothers still want to marry their daughters to me, considering that I am the curse's bringer."

"You are not!"

"That's sweet, Eirlys.

They bullied my mother, do they still expect me to marry their daughters?

What a joke."

"So you marry me in an attempt to take revenge?"

"Do you think I would sacrifice myself for revenge?

I expect more from you. And for such people?"

"Then why..."

"Eirlys, why do people get married?"

"Because they lov..."

"Then you have your answer.

Do I disappoint you, Eirlys?

Because my reasons are not evil?"

"Not because you think it's your responsibility and am grateful?

As I lost my sight to save you?"

"Do you see me marrying the King?

I am grateful that he is stupid."

"My lord, the King is here.

Please refrain from making any insensitive remarks."

"And Eirlys, you dessert tonight is gone."

"Why?"

"A punishment for betraying me.

You doubted me."

"Please accept my sincerest apologies, my lord.

I promise that will never happen again.

But could you please let me have the dessert tonight?

Cook said we would have apple pie tonight.

And you know cook makes excellent pies."

{He responds with a smile and I know any more pleadings will be in vain.}
