Chapter seven; hibiscus

"C'mon just tell us!" I heard faintly.
I started waking up, and opened my eyes a bit.
I sat up, and the bright light managed to cut through the tent, and burned my eyes.
I moved out out of the light and started listening to what they were saying.
"We know you guys were up late, so what did you do?"
"Shes not even awake, so why do you care?" I thought I heard Ralph say.
"Guys just stop it-" River started.
I jumped out, and stretched.
"Hey guys." I said loudly cutting him off, so they would shut up.
No one responded instead they searched in the food bags trying to expel the pit of awkwardness in all our stomachs.
I made eye contact with River, who was sitting on the opposite side of the fire.
I moved over to the food bags and kept looking at him through the flames.
He playfully winked at me, and I blushed, as I looked down.
I dug in the last bag of food we had.
We had some bread, butter, oranges, and some cold eggos.
I grabbed a plain bagel, and an orange.
I walked over to the fire.
I took a bite of the circular piece of bread, and sat down next to River.
"Hey." He turned his head to me and had a cute grin.
"Hey." I smiled big.
He grabbed the bagel from my hand and took a small piece of it.
he put it back in my hand, and I took a bite looking at the water.
It was foggy and the fog was pouring into the stream.
"I wish i stayed with you."
I grinned at him.
"We should pack up." I said getting up.
"Yeah." He mumbled as I walked into my tent.
I gathered my things and folded up my tent.
I put it in a big bag, next to the fire and walked over to the water.
It was still foggy, so when I looked back all I could see was the tents, barely.
I took my pack of camel cigarettes out of my back pocket, and slipped one out.
I put it in my mouth and held it as I looked for a lighter.
I pulled it from the inner pocket of my jacket, and as I pulled it out I hit the side of my jacket and it fell into the water.
"Shit." I said removing the cigarette from my mouth and quickly stuffing it in my pocket.
I scrambled through the water, and tried to grab it before it hit the bottom but I was too late.
"Uh fuck."
I pulled the crushed cigarette from my pocket, and stuck it in my mouth chewing on it, "Having some trouble?"
I turned to the side and saw River.
I turned back and sighed.
"here." He said tapping my shoulder with his hand.
I turned and he held out a box of matches.
"thanks."
I took it and lit one.
I waved the match over my cigarette and then blew it out.
I gave the box back to him and I inhaled.
"So Mrs. Louis likes me, River Phoenix." He said spreading his hands in front of him.
I exhaled.
I took a few puffs.
He bumped my hip and I smirked.
"I don't know what to say..when I'm around you my mind is somewhere else-I don't know." I said laughing and kicking the dirt beneath me.
I smushed my cigarette and shoved it in my pocket.
I felt his hands on my shoulders and he spun me around, so I would face him.
I thought he was gonna kiss me, but he pulled me into a hug.
A big, warm, bear hug.
He was so much taller than me, so my head rested on his chest.
His chin was on top of my head and his arms were wrapped around me.
I felt so safe with him.
"I lo-" Shit it said that out loud.
"What." He said moving away from me.
"nothing." I said hugging him again.
I barely know him why would i say I love you...Maybe i'm smoking too much.
He laughed at me and held me tighter.
That was close.
I closed my eyes and faded away.
"You can do it."
I held her tighter and breathed in.
"Alright now get out there and give me a show."
I backed away and smiled.
I ran onto stage and the lights slowly came on.
I began my scene.
I was singing and dancing and acting and doing everything.
I looked out in the audience and spotted my mother.
"hi mommy!" I yelled as I bowed with the cast.
She stood up, "Wooo!!! Go baby!"
"I love you!" She said.
"Love you!!!"
I smiled and looked at my mom clapping and cheering.
"Blue."
"Blue." River said shaking me slightly.
"Oh sorry." I said snapping out of it and scratching my head.
He looked at me funny and I ignored him.
I quickly walked back to the tents that were now torn down and packed.
"Alright you guys ready." Corey asked, as River approached the group.
I nodded and grabbed my stuff.
we began walking and Meadow was in front by herself.
I was gathered around with the guys.
Riv came up to me.
He put his hand on my shoulder.
"Hey you okay?" He said.
"Mhm." I said speeding up and leaving him behind as I went with Meadow.
"Whats wrong." She said
