Chapter 2: Unexpected Hope

(Headmaster Elric pov)

I was in my office going over how much money we're going to be budgeting ever since the mayor extended the offer of having any of age children in the orphanage legally obtain a job to have a source of income that we could put to use towards repairing the building. I felt a bit guilty since the only ones actually able to work were (Y/n) and atra but since atra technically already worked here that left only (Y/n) able to work.

(Knock Knock Knock)

Headmaster:"yes? Come in"I said

The door opened, I sighed fully expected it to be Alina or atra coming in to tell me that they were going out shopping but instead I was surprised by atra entering the room with a worried look on her face followed by a police officer.

Headmaster:"oh...Is there something I can do for you officer?" I said to the officer as he stopped in front of my desk

Officer:"yes we're currently conducting a search for a suspect that was involved in a mugging that resulted in four boys being injured there the suspect in question is a Faunus that matches the description of a Faunus that has been staying here, if so then I'll be taking him in for questioning"

My eyes widened slightly upon hearing the news. The day I'd dreaded for so long had finally come I knew that (Y/n) being a Faunus would've made life difficult for him thanks to all the bigotry aimed at the Faunus but still why did it have to happen now?

Headmaster:"I'm afraid you've got the wrong place officer...we had a Faunus at one point but they ran away a few months ago" I responded I knew that by lying I was implicating myself as an accomplice but I didn't care I loved (Y/n) like he was my own son and If they got there hands on him i feared the cruel fate that awaited him

Officer:" I see...thank you for your cooperation" he said and left the room leaving me and atra alone as she stood there still looking worried about what I'd just said.

Atra:" headmaster Elric?...what're we going to do now? (Y/n) would never do a thing like that and what about what you told the officer? If they find out then..." she said looking at me with a face full of despair

Headmaster Elric:(sigh)"...I have a call to make"

(Y/n pov)

I was coming back from the dust mines that I worked my ass off at for chump change except this Time took it upon myself to collect my own personal severance in the form of some canisters of dust that we use to power the equipment. The mech that I found seemed to have run out of power and had been left to decay so I figured if i got t to work than maybe I could put it to use for myself or worst case scenario I could salvage it for lien. I arrived at the spot where I dug it up, I went over to the spot where I pulled those other canisters out and inserted the dust into it ...nothing happened.

(Y/n):"oh great I knew this was a long shot to turn this thing on (sigh) so much for using alternative fuels" I said as I walk over to the front "I wonder how I'm going to-"

I was cut off the second I saw the ocular light in the center of the mech blink to life and and I heard what sounded like an engine slowly turning on I stepped back in fear preparing for the what might happen

(Y/n):"ok either this thing is going to try and kill me which I hope I can out run it with my semblance or its going to explode which means all that hard work was for nothing"

Ai voice:"system online...running system diagnostics...compromised fuel cells replaced with alternative fuel solution...no abnormalities detected...pilot what is your status?" It said as it stood up and I watched the front of its hull open revealing a cockpit with someone inside. It reached in and pull out the guy inside the second it did the persons head fell off and practically landed in my hands revealing it was a skull
