Corey notices my shock and stops. He sits down on the ground and rubs his chin.

"I-I'm sorry if I brought back painful memories..." I start to say, but Corey puts up his hand to stop me.

"It's okay, I would've told you later anyways," he says. "I might as well tell you now."

"About two days after the wreck, I was walking around the jungle scrounging for food." Corey starts. "I heard something rattling in the bushes...

I thought it was a wild animal, so I picked up sticks and started throwing them towards the movement.

"Suddenly, a young girl emerged. She had blonde hair, and these dark hazel eyes that looked like chocolate, and she appeared to be a little older than me." Corey's eyes become full of tears as he tells me about her.

She must've been someone special... I think.

"When she saw me, her eyes widened in awe. She was so surprised that there was another human being on the island. She ran up to me and asked me if u spoke English. I nodded my head and told her my name and how I got here. Her eyes lit up and she said that she was on the same cruise ship. She told me her name was Tiffany, she was 18 and she lived in Alberta, Canada."

I nod. I've always wondered what it's like in Canada. It must be cold.

"What happened to her?" I ask.

"She... Left.'' Corey says hesitantly.

"Oh." I say with disappointment. I don't want things to be awkward, so I change the subject.

"Well, we should probably get on with looking for food." I say.

He nods and we start walking again.

"Do they really live in igloos and have pet polar bears that they ride on in Canada?" I ask with a giggle. Corey laughs along shaking his head.

"Of course not!!! Polar bears are too accustomed to cold weather to live in lots of places in Canada." He changes his face to a mock- serious expression.

"But they do live in igloos."

I laugh. "Really?"

"Not everyone. Just the people who build them for fun or the Inuit."

I laugh, even though it isn't that funny.

Just logical.

"And I was thinking, maybe you'd like to have some... Oh, I don't know... Meat for dinner?" he asks.

I tuck a loose strand if my dark brown hair behind my ear and grimace.

"The thought of killing a wild animal myself makes me queasy." I say.

"Well, technically I'd be killing it. Not you!!" He laughs.

"Fine, I guess I'll have to have some protein. That way, when the killer monkeys come to eat me I'll actually make a good meal." I joke.

Corey looks at me with a face that says this girl is nuts. I laugh at my stupid joke and we keep walking.
