A beautiful lagoon, surrounded by large rocks is in front of us. At the other end, I see a tall waterfall, cascading into the pool. A large rainbow appeared to go through it.
"It's gorgeous!!!" I gush. "Can we swim in it??" Corey nods and takes the crutches from me. I stand on my good foot, and tentatively put the sprained one on the ground. He leans the crutches against a nearby palm tree and takes off his shirt, and dives in. I jump in after him.
We splash around for a bit, until I get tired of kicking my feet so we just float. I point to every single fish I see, and Corey names it and tells me a little bit about it. We chat about where we came from, and it turns out that Corey lived about three hours from my house. I sigh and tell him about my family. He tells me he hardly even remembers what his parents look like. He sniffs a little. "Do you want to jump off the waterfall??" He jokes. "Heck no!!" I reply.
About and hour or two later, we arrive back at his (our?) camp. It's starting to get dark, so Corey goes out and gets us some dinner. I sit by the nice fire he built before he left and think about how long I've been on this stupid island. "Two weeks... Three weeks?? No. Less than three. Two and a half. Maybe." I babble out loud.
Just then Corey walks up to me with some kind of meat that smells like chicken. He hands me a peice and says "Two weeks, today." I knew it!! I think. Suddenly I feel sad. I miss my family. "I know you do." Corey says. "I do too." "Wait... Did I say that out loud?" I ask, confusedly. "No, I can read your mind." Corey says wiggling his fingers in front of my face. I roll my eyes and laugh. "Sure you can." I say sarcastically.
"It's getting late," Corey says. "I'm going to go to bed." He gets up and offers me his hand. "Are you tired?" He says. "Exhausted." I reply, taking his hand. I let go and walk into the shelter behind him. He lays down on the ground and rests his head on his hands. "Are you sure you want to sleep on the ground?" I ask. "Are you sure you would want to sleep on the ground?" He responds. "Fair enough." I say. I fall asleep in seconds.
"Psst, Leila." Corey taps my arm. "Leila wake up!!!" He says, more urgent. I open my eyes groggily. "Corey? What's wrong??" I ask reading his panicked expression. "I forgot to put out the fire last night." I get up and race to the doorway. The whole clearing is in flames. "Oh my God. Oh my God!!" I say. "Corey, we need water!!" I almost yell. "I don't have a bucket!!!!" He replies. "I have a couple bowls, but theyre outside!! They probably caught fire!!!" I start to hyperventillate.
"Grab everything you can, We have to get out!! We can leave through the window." I say pointing to the window. Corey seems to be frozen to the spot. "COREY!!!" I yell. "COME ON!!!" He follows me to the desk and stuffs the pockets of his cargo shorts. All his blueprints, medical supplies, everything. We push the desk so it sits directly under the window and climb out.
Corey was right. The whole clearing is on fire. But there isn't any time to stop and watch. We have to run.
