[ Emily's POV ]

After the MRI finishes, a few nurses I've never seen before run into the room and help me out of the MRI machine and back onto my hospital bed.

"Hi sweetheart, I'm Dr. Grey, this is Dr. Yang and Dr. Stevens. We'll be your doctors, along with Dr. Shepherd."

"So you're not nurses?" I ask, and the three smile softly.

"No honey we aren't. Don't worry, you're in good hands." As they roll my bed back to my room I ask,

"Am I gonna die?"

"We're going to do everything we can to save you." Dr. Yang tells me, as Dr. Stevens rubs my back gently with her hand.

"I'm so scared." I whisper, more to myself than to them.

"It's okay to be scared." Dr. Grey tells me, smiling as we arrive back at my room.

"Emmy!" Louis hollers, running over the second I'm back in my bed in the middle of my hospital room. "How'd it go?" He asks the doctors.

"We confirmed that it is indeed the tumor that Dr. Shepherd thought it was. We'll start vigorous chemotherapy and radiation tomorrow. Emily will lose her hair eventually, but that could be in a few weeks or a few months. It just depends on how much chemotherapy we have to do weekly." Dr. Yang says in one big breath. Louis and Harry, the only ones who are in the room, both look extremely overwhelmed. Well that's one thing I can relate to.

"Thank you." Harry mumbles to the three doctors, each who smile at them and then leave the room. Reaching up, I take both of their hands and squeeze them gently.

"I got this." I say softly. Suddenly, Niall and Liam walk into the room.

"Sorry we've been gone for so long. We both just needed to wrap our heads around this whole situation. But we're back and we aren't going anywhere anytime soon." Liam says, smiling as he and Niall both hug me tightly. I giggle and hug them back, tighter than I've ever done before.

"Time for you to kick cancers ass baby girl." Niall says, laughing as he finishes his sentence. Louis and Harry both gently punch Niall in the shoulder, telling him how he can't swear around me.

"He's right," I say, "I'm gonna kick this tumors ass." The four laugh and don't bother to scold me for cussing. That's the least of our worries.

[ Third Person POV ]

Ever since Emily began chemotherapy, things have gone downhill. At first, it seemed that she may be able to beat the deadly and invasive tumor. For the first six months, she endured two to three chemotherapy treatments each week. Her smile and hair didn't seem to fade in that time period, making it fairly easy for the boys to care for her. They decided to tell the public about Emily and her condition, and decided it'd be best if they extended their break for the time being. The four of them barely left Emily's side throughout the whole ordeal. When Emily was sick and throwing up because of the chemotherapy and radiation, the boys were by her side. When she was screaming and crying because of the extreme pain she was constantly in, they were right beside her, comforting her. The four doctors that Emily and the boys had met at the start of her journey had all grown incredibly close to the young girl. When the boys told them why they adopted her and what she went through as a young child, the doctors were all very touched and even more determined to save her life. However, about eight months after Emily was diagnosed with the tumor, that's when things really hit rock bottom. Emily's hair began to fall out, shocking and scaring Emily. She knew that this was bound to happen, but seeing it made her reality even more real. The boys decided to shave her head themselves, they felt the need to be in control of something in their lives. The doctors tried to comfort Emily whenever the boys were out eating lunch or getting groceries, but Emily would barely look at them. She was beginning to resent the very people who were trying to save her life. The tumor was spreading, infecting parts of Emily's brain that were connected to her personality and vision. Just when everyone thought things couldn't get any worse, Emily's vision began to get compromised because of the spreading tumor. She started screaming late one night, jolting the boys awake. Doctors poured into the room in horror when they realized that Emily would be blind soon if they didn't operate. In a panic, Emily was rushed to the OR leaving the terrified and heartbroken boys behind in her room. Harry took her diagnosis the hardest. He felt he was responsible for what happened to her, since she fell off of his shoulders. Although everyone tells him that he's being unreasonable, the guilt he felt on a daily basis has started to eat him alive. Niall, sweet, carefree Niall barely spoke anymore. His blue eyes had turned into an empty void. He barely made jokes anymore. He mainly sat in the corner of Emily's room, tears in his eyes, his heart completely shattered. Watching someone who he's supposed to be protecting going through such a horrific experience everyday, broke him. Liam was the only one who wasn't at the hospital that much anymore. In the beginning he was, but he stopped coming often. Having to see his loved one cry and beg him to let her go home was too hard for him to watch, so he ceased to come altogether. Louis stayed by Emily's side the most. He always fell asleep in the uncomfortable wooden chair that sat at the edge of her bed. When she was having a bad day he'd try to make her laugh and play some board games with her. It was unusual for Emily to smile a whole lot those days. When she lost her hair, she lost a part of her identity. The tumor had begun to steal some of her personality. She would snap at the boys or even her doctors whenever they would try and talk to her. She grew hostile and angry, barely wanting to talk to anyone anymore. Luckily, the surgery meant to save her vision went well. The doctors were able to stop the tumor from invading her optic nerve, which saved her from losing her sight along with everything else she's lost. When the doctors told the boys that the surgery was a success, lots of happy tears were cried. However, when they told them that Emily only had a few months to live, the four men were speechless. Their little girl, someone they've grown to love dearly, didn't have much time left.
