I'm sorry this chapter has taken so long for me to finish, it was originally going to be one big chapter but I decided to split it into two. So this whole chapter is one big flashback, and if I filled in all the holes correctly it should be the last one. I hope you enjoy the chapter!

The breeze ran through Grillbys flames as he stared at his pocket, he swore he heard it chime, He picked up His reminder and scanned it. There was no alert on the screen, sighing a breath of relief Grillby returned the device to his pocket. King Asgore had his royal scientist create a device to hand out to every monster, if the Monster was in distress and needed helping they simply pressed the button and their location is sent out to every monster. The button is usually pressed when a monster is being harassed by a human.
He pushed himself down the dirt path towards his house, Grillby lived in a small neighborhood filled with all kinds of elementals. Rock, water, wind, lightening, and fire. Each elemental was truly amazing, acquired with a special power. As Grillby approached his wooden hut he noticed the strange silence in the neighborhood, unsettled by it Grillby crept inside his house, Shutting the door softly to avoid waking up, he assumes, his sleeping parents. He scanned the open space that laid before him, to the neat and tidy gathering room to his left, to the small kitchen to his right. Entering the kitchen did Grillby notice the fine letter laying on top of a pile of papers that read
'Grilby'
Grillby picked up the letter and ripped open the fine seal, he opened the letter and he noticed that the letter was written in a string of strange symbols. Grillby could feel his eyes widen,
Wing-Ding.
He had learned how to read wing-ding after a year of meeting Gaster, though Grillby hadn't read in it for quite some time. So with little difficulty he read the letter.
'Dear Grillby,
I feel as if Our time together has been stalled far too long, '
Grillby squinted at a part of the letter that was unrecognizable, sighing a breath of frustration he skipped the parts he couldn't read,
'—— and I plan to eat at the bakery, in the human village, (because —— loathes Muffets) at 4:30, if you would like to join us.
-Gaster,'
Grillby felt his breath hitch, it hasn't been a while since Grillby and Gaster were on good terms, it was Grillbys
'Unjustified act' that had pulled them apart, But, Gaster had sent Grillby an invite. Did Gaster forgive him?
-
Walking down the paved walkway Grillby allowed the coldness peck at his flames. The human village was only a
fifteen minute walk from his village, and as long as he stayed on the pavement he was granted some safety. Humans have been making more and more excuses to get there hands on a vulnerable monster, and after the last incident, Grillby felt no desire to wonder.
-
Grillby pushed open the door to the bakery, Human heads snapped in his direction and glared with great hatred. Grillby merely smiled, the bakery was no bigger than his house. The cashier and kitchen in front of him and a couple of tables off to the side, yet with a room so small why can't he fucking find-
"Hey! Over here!"
Called a voice, Grillby spun his head to the direction the noise came from, then he found two lanky skeletons sitting in a corner. Relief filling his soul, Grillby dragged his feet over to them.
As he approached Gaster gave him a half hearted smile, as while the skeleton next to him grinned broadly,
<<Didn't actually think you'd show up,>>
Gaster signed , Grillby nodded,
"I'm sorry I'm late,-"
Gaster brushed off his apology,
"It doesn't matter, out order hasn't came out for an hour,"
Complained the skeleton next to him, Gaster rolled his eyes.
<<It's because we're monsters Serif, I believe I explained this to you before we left?>>
(Serif?) nodded stiffly,
"Doesn't make my impatient stomach disappear," he growled setting his head in his skeletal hand.
Gaster sighed, he pulled out a chair and motioned Grillby to sit. Hesitantly Grillby sat, it was all so confusing. He wasn't sure who this skeleton was, it must have been mentioned in the bit of the letter Grillby couldn't read, he scowled to himself. He didnt want to ask and seem rude, but then again it would be more rude to refer to him as just "skeleton,". But something else was bugging him, how could Gaster be so rude to Grillby and expect him to show up to whenever Gaster wanted him too. But what frustrates him more is that he did, that he showed up like a lost puppy being returned to his owner-
Gaster seemed to notice the elementals mental debate,
<<Is something bothering you?>>
He asked,
Grillby flushed with embarrassment at being caught, his flames burned a bright green.
"I'm sorry if I offend you," he started, Gaster raised an eyebrow,
"But there was a bit of the letter I couldn't read, and I'm wondering if that the part included who he was..." Grillby trailed off,
Gaster scowled,
<<I thought you could read Wing-Ding>> he signed,
"I haven't done it in a while," Grillby said defensively,
<< And why not?>>
Grillby was twitching with irritation,
"It's kind of hard to remain good at a language when you have no one to talk to that speaks it,"
Gaster froze, he stared at Grillby. Grillby could feel his irritation die down, he wished he had bit his tongue. Whatever bonding they had started was long gone, after a long moment of awkwardness Gaster looked Grillby up and down then signed
<<This is my brother, Serif>>
Serif waved at Grillby nervously,
Grillby raised his eyebrows in confusion, he and Gaster had been friends for a while. Why hasn't he mentioned him before! Frustration once again was piling up is his stomach and threatening to take control of Grillby's mind. Gaster seemed to have noticed Grillby confusion and not the anger that tailed it,
<< Serifs a royal guards men, and was stationed in Cuba to assist the kings Grandmother over to him again,>>
explained Gaster,
Still doesn't explain his absence
<<he is the Kings grandmothers royal guard, she had wished to live in Cuba for most of her life, she decided to come back when humans and monsters started->>
Gaster cut his explanation short,
<< I ,of course, still communicated with Serif, though it was hard, it was done>>
Serif smiled at Gaster,
"You can't spell determination without" Smirked Serif, Gaster groaned.
<<termination,>> he signed sheepishly, Serif laughed.
Was this some kind of secrete bullshit Grillby was going to have to decode soon?
Once again awkward silence filled the gap between the trio,
"Soooo, how schools?" Asked Serif,
Grillby suppressed a snort,
So fucking cliche
Gaster explained ,however, with great interest.
Grillby allowed his head to rest on his hand, he had heard of this speech one to many times, and it doesn't matter how long it's been since they talked he was not going to willingly listen to it again.
....
But he couldn't walk out of the bakery, sighing Grillby allowed his thoughts to overcome him.
-
"So, uh, Grillby hows school?" Asked Serif awkwardly,
Grillby blinked at him,
Was Gasters speech not sufficient?
"Agh, I get it," chuckled Serif,
"Your the meat head of the group,"
Grillby scowled, a smart remark already rolling off his tongue. However, Gaster beat him to it,
<<He was, until the advanced Magic courses came to be>> smirked Gaster,
Grillby listened.
<<stupid bastard gave me a run for my money.>>
Grillby cheeks were dusted with scattered colors of green.
"I wasn't that smart-"
<<You jest>>
"Believe it or not, no"
Gaster and Serif raises their eye bones,
"Well I mean of course I was smart, I ranked higher in that class because of the hands on activities," explained Grillby,
"Sword fighting, archery, defense, spells," Serif blinked at the elemental,
"Archery? I see no value in teaching you that, burn white hot and walk out to your opponent. They'll be damned."
Grillby forced a chuckle, and once agin unwanted silence crept up on them.
"Order 3!" Called a voice from the kitchen,
<<that's our order,>>
"I'll get it!" Cried Serif nearly falling as he sprung from his seat,
-
Gaster and Serif munched on cookies as the three of them walked through the human village, Serif and Gaster walked shoulder to shoulder while Grillby awkwardly lagged behind.
"And so the Physics teacher was like
'I'm the teacher you have no right to question me.' " laughed Serif,
"And then I raised my hand and said,'sir I have a question.' " and both of the skeletons burst out with laughter. Behind them Grillby cringed at Serifs attempt to make a joke, and cringed more to the fact that they found it hilarious. If Grillby had the courage too, he would have attempted an joke too. But Grillby felt as if he were the odd one out, two skeletons and one fucking fire elemental.

As they trudged on Grillby had the sneaky suspicion that Serif had been the one that forced Gaster to send the letter, for Gaster hasn't said more than a couple of sentences to him.
The longer they walked to more humans appeared pushing past them, and rather aggressively too. Gaster and Grillby were use to this, however, Serif looked distressed and confused. Almost on edge it would seem.
-
<<just press the button>>
Instructed Gaster, when they had reached a dirt road passing. Serif followed Gasters instructions and watched with awe as a wooden structure shot out an red flag signaling the carriages to stop.
Both sides of the road walked inward and clashed together,
"God, it was never this crowded in Cuba..." muttered Serif clearly on edge,
"The Monster king and Prime minister live her, it tends to be a famous spot."
Hummed Grillby, dodging any human contact.
Serif nodded understandably, though a hint of annoyance lingered on the Skeletons features.
<<keep your head up and eyes straight forward, make eye contact with any humans and they'll->>
At that moment Serif accidentally trotted on a passing humans foot, the human jumped onto his other legged and spun towards Serif. the trio stopped cold in their tracks, Grillby could see Gasters bone face become paler.
"What do you think your doing monster," the last word rang with disgust.
"Same thing you are" hummed Serif refusing to look away from the plump human, Grillby could hear Gasters breath hitch at Serifs defiance.
"Crossing the damn street, it doesn't have to be so difficult. It's just fleshy humans like you tend to get in the way,"
The human was outraged and threw many racial slurs at the lanky skeleton, at every word the skeletons face churned with loathe and anger. Gaster made movements to fling himself at the human, Grillby quickly caught him and pulled him back.
<<No- Stop! Let me go you bastard!>> Gasters last words made Grillby flinch,
They both know that if they made any rash actions they could be arrested. By at the moment Gaster didn't seem to care. Grillby looked around nervously, they sure were attracting a lot of humans...he needed to get them out of here, Serif and Gaster could get hurt, or worse-
There was a cry of frustration then the sound of bone hitting flesh. Grillby snapped his head back to Serif as he watched the plump human cripple to the ground with a shout of pain.
All hell broke lose
Humans were screaming and clawing there way to Serif, Gaster was now trying to kick Grillby to make him let go. Refusing to let go Grillby pulled Gaster back to a restaurant, by an empty table with food remaining on it.
Grillby fumbled for his reminder, he needed to press it, he needed to help Serif-
The humans clutched to Serif as others helped the plump human, and called the cops.
As the human stood up his jaw hung jaggedly from his face, earning a gag from Gaster.
They had managed to pin Serif to the ground, the skeleton displayed no regret. But he did seem very happy with himself, but do you blame him?
The human guards strolled up the dirt road and readied they're  swords.
A nervous shutter filled Gaster as Grillby sparked Green flames.
They hoisted the skeleton up and immediately started beating him, Gaster screamed for Grillby to let go, Grillby managed to press the button on his reminder and keep a hold of Gaster.
As Serif was sent doubling over Gaster seemed as if he had given up on trying to get to him, Grillby slackened him arms a bit-
Gaster thrusted his hand towards the
Empty table and snatching the leftover water, he emptied the liquid on Grillby's arm.Grillby screamed in pain and let go off Gaster. Clutching the extinguished part on his arm, he watched as Gaster bolted to Serif and pushing through the human crowd.
As he reached the guards he tried to pull Serif away from them using blue magic. The guard scoffed and slammed the flat side of his sword onto Gaster's head. An immediate crack formed its way across his skull.
The skeleton dropped clutching his head in pain,
"Go away you walking corpse!" Spat a guard, kicking Gaster away.
Despite Grillby's burnt arm he ran to Gaster and once again attempted to pull Gaster away, though this time he deemed more successful for Gaster seemed to be on the edge of passing out,
His arm screeching in protest he dragged Gaster away from the crowd, Gaster signed weakly,
<<S-stop->>
<<N-no>>
Some monsters that had received the alert ran to the duos aid, grabbing them and hauling them off, trying to put as much distance between them and the Human village.

Walking on the dirt road back to the monster village, Gaster passed out somewhat during the ride resulting in the bulky goat monster to carry him. Grillby's arm ,however, ached and seared with pain. He didn't want to be mad at Gaster for he was trying to protect the monster he loved...but...the water hurt like shit.
Grillbys flames flickered lower at the thought of Serif, the thought of his fate.
Grillby stared at his feet. Watching the sunlight bounce off the shiny pebbles, the leaves blow past their faces. Gaster was going to have to get to the infirmary soon, that crack on his head doesn't look so good.
