Chapter Two

Lana was already up, showered and dressed by the time it hit four in the morning.

"You're up on time, finally taking your job seriously?" Kassian said sarcastically.

They walked through the halls towards the stairs, "your shoes are untied." She said casually, it wasn't the best comeback but she did catch his eyes glance down to make sure she was lying.

He pushed open the double doors to the roof.

Her heart skipped a beat once her eyes landed on the helicopter up above, even with her past, helicopters still sent a shiver down her spine, she hated them.

"Suck it up Lana, it's only a helicopter." Kassian said, his mouth tilting into a teasing smile.

"Fuck you."

But he went on, a coy smile playing on his lips, "Though, I heard there's some bad weather heading our way." Lana hesitated in her steps, her head slowly turning to him, "Overheard the pilots discussing it last night, they're quite worried, said it's going to be a pretty bad thunderstorm. Loud." Her heart raced, she hated flying and the idea of doing so in a storm sent her into a cold sweat, but what had her filling with anger and disgust was him mentioning how loud it will be.

The sound of thunder and lightning reminded her of her traumatic past, pasts he was apart of, he knew what he was bringing up, and all for a laugh?

She couldn't believe he'd use such a harsh move, it was low, even for him.

Lana's stomach knotted in a hot burn as she glared at him, "hurry up." A man yelled, Lana's eyes snapped up to the helicopter that had landed, her hair wiped around her, she quickly tied it back with an irritated grunt.

Kassian jogged on, grabbing some head gear and then sitting down furthest from where Lana would sit. She followed suit, rolling her eyes at his childish behaviour.

Kassian and Lana didn't hate each-other but they didn't particularly get along, there was always a competitive streak between them, but Lana was thankful for it because it gave her that motivation to push herself harder.

She settled into a comfortable position and let her mind drift whilst they flew.

"Welcome, welcome!" A large joyful voice called from the front door.

It had taken an hours drive from where the helicopter landed to reach Doctor Martins home.

Lana gave a light smile as she walked towards the large wooden house.

It smelt like burning wood and candles, she looked around trying to hide her awe, it was the kind of house you'd only dream of having.

"Follow me to my office please," Sir Martin waved his arm to direct them through the main entrance, "was your journey here okay?"

"It was, thank you." Kassian voiced, it was a lie, the journey was long and dull.

"Ah, Isabella," as they entered the warm office Sir Martin smiled brightly at his daughter who had been in conversation with another women, Lana assumed she worked for Isabella's Father and wasn't family as they looked nothing alike.

"Thank you Marilyn." Isabella murmured before smiling at the group, "Hello, Hello, how are you all." She walked over to give Lana and Kassian a quick handshake.

"Good thank you," Lana responded in a happy tone, "your house is lovely."

"Thank you, and thank you for doing this." She looked sincere with her thanks before stepping to her fathers side.

Isabella was rather beautiful, she stood to about her fathers chin, she was quite thin which brought out her sharp features, her skin was a warm brown, her black curls were tied back, only one strand left out, it perfectly framed her face.

"Yes, really I couldn't be more grateful for your service to my family, as I'm sure you're aware we'll be needing you for the next three months as Isabella's regular guardians are otherwise occupied." He said vaguely, it made Lana wonder what they were doing instead.
"Isabella has -"

His daughter cut him off quietly to correct him, "Bella."

He chuckled, "Bella, has decided that she wants to experience a less confined educational experience over in California, and against my better judgement I have allowed her this as long as she has you two, she'll only be needing you for the next two semesters and then her bodyguards will return."

Lana could see why Bella would've wanted this, she assumed her father kept her under intense supervision and that she'd finally had enough.

"You'll be leaving tonight, my driver Edward will escort you through the entirety of the trip until you reach the house I've picked for you to stay in." A small elderly man gave them a wave from the corner of the room, Lana frowned, how had she not noticed him before now.

Sir Martin placed his hand on his daughters back and gave her a gentle nudge forward, "okay honey why don't you grab your bags, we'll join you in ten." She nodded and followed his instructions, Edward followed after her slowly.

"As for you two I've got some boring papers I need you to sign," he went behind his desk before heading back over with some papers and pens.

Lana read over it carefully this time, making sure she knew exactly what she was signing.

Both Kassian Fedorov and Lana Harris will remain a strict professional relationship within the time required for their services.

Lana rolled her eyes, she wouldn't dream of doing anything but that.
