Chapter Thirteen

"I've got her don't worry." Kassian grumbled as he lifted Katie into his arms, carrying her out towards the upcoming ambulance, the host stood waving his arms out to them.

They carried her onto a stretcher communicating to each other about her status, one of the paramedics walked over to Kassian and Lana, "Do either of you know her?"

"Yes." Isabella cut in, "her name is Katelyn Anne Minch, she's seventeen with no allergies or past medical issues." She followed the medic quickly into the ambulance, Kassian following behind, Lana stayed with the host.

"She had only three drinks so far, we'd barely arrived before this happened." She continued to explain. Other paramedics moved to place an IV in her arm and check her pulse.

"I was with her at the time, she was completely fine, drinking, laughing, just talking and the suddenly her speech started to fail and she started seizing."

"Let me help you clear up." Lana said with a soft smile, Marcus, the hosts name that she'd just learned, smiled back graciously.

"Thank you, really." He grabbed her a trash bag, "It was meant to be a small thing, my parents aren't even aware I had one. I have no clue how it got so big without me knowing. And Katie, god I feel so awful." Lana rested a hand on his upper arm.

"Don't. It's not your fault at all, she's going to be okay." She studied his face, he looked like he was near tears.

"Wanna play some calming music whilst we do this?" She suggested, it was a weak attempt to help his anxiety, surprisingly he took kindly to it and did as she said.

Lana wondered to the kitchen looking around the room quietly, she went over to the wooden table that held mixers and different alcohols. It was the table Katie had been stood at before she'd collapsed.

Lana looked around trying to find Katies cup, whether she would be able to she wasn't sure, they all looked pretty similar.

She pulled out her phone to message Kassian; any idea of what Katies cup looked like?

He replied after a few minutes; purple plastic cup with a sharpie drawn smile on it.

She looked across the floor, cups littered it that you could barely see the kitchen tiles.

"There we go." She picked up the purple cup with the badly drawn smiley face, there was still some liquid in the bottom. "Hey Marcus?" She called out.

"Yeah?"

"Do you have any small plastic ziplock bags?" He was quiet for a moment, some cupboards opening and closing before he confirmed that he did.

He gave it to her, watching her with a confused expression as she poured the remains of the liquid into the resealable plastic, "it's for the police to test." She said to him, he took her answer and left her to it.

Of course, it wasn't for the police to study, it was for her and Kassian to look at later. She sealed the baggy and placed it in her sleeve.

"How is she?" Lana asked Kassian as soon as she entered the waiting room, she looked over to Bella who was grabbing a snack from the vending machine.

"Bella?" He followed her direction, "she's just very quiet."

"I have the drink." Lana said, handing him the baggy, he lifted it to the light and studied it.

"Seems normal," he mumbled, he drilled it back on Lana's lap before slouching and crossing his arms, "probably just a spiking."

Lana bit the inside of her cheek, "yeah probably."

"Lana, what took you so long?" Bella sat down, "I'm sorry, I thought I'd help Marcus clear up."

"That's kind of you," she slouched in her chair too, "I feel bad for him, he's a nice guy. I know his parents are pretty tough on him."

Lana pushed the conversation, it seemed like a good distraction for Bella, "how so?" Bella began to explain some rumours she'd heard about his home situation, she spoke for a few minutes about it, happy for the redirection of her thoughts.

"Isabella?" A woman's voice called out,
They each turned to look over at the E.R entry, a slim looking woman with bright red hair stood awkwardly nibbling on the skin of her thumb.

"Yeah?" Bella stood slowly to stand out to the stranger, the woman had a warm smile as she walked over to the group.

"I'm Katies mother, I just wanted to say thank you for being here right now, and you," her eyes moved down to Kassian, "thank you for taking her to the ambulance and putting her in a safe position."

"Of course." He said politely.
She reached for Bella's wrist, Lana watched her carefully, "would you like to come and see her?"

Bella nodded then stopped and looked to the pair for permission, Lana looked stern for a second before tapping her chest to indicate she should come to, "I'd love to, can Lana too?"

"That would be lovely, thank you." She turned on her heel, "follow me down this hall."
