The Merry-Go-Round

When we were little kids, our mom counted on you, to watch over me,

And you did a very good job; you were the best big sister that you could be.

You would always take me out, and walk me to the park,

And we would play all day, until it was nearly dark.

I loved to play on the merry-go-round, so that was where we played,

I knew you would never let me fall, but I never knew you were afraid.

Just because you knew I loved it, you just held on to me,

And since I was so very small, I just simply could not see.

That you, yourself, were really young and still very small too,

And when you were holding on to me, no one was holding you.

You always did it though, and you never once complained,

Every time I wanted to, we just jumped right on it again.

The big kids, they would get on, and make it go really fast too,

But I knew that I would never fall, as long as behind me there was you.

You always held me so tightly, and never once let me fall down,

Oh, how you must have hated, that silly old merry-go-round.

You were only three years older than I was, and that is not very much,

To be so responsible, for your little sister and such.

Yes, even though you were so very small, it was a good job that you did do,

And that is why I wanted to say, this one very special thank you.

Now, I’ll always try to do my best, to always be there and never let you down,

Just like the way, you were there for me on that red & white merry-go-round.
