Toshinori stood before the door to the Class 1A homeroom in U.A.
I must be imagining how big it is, he thought.
His heart was pounding as he gazed it.
On the other side of the door is my future. This is the first gate I must pass through to become the symbol of peace. It all starts here, he thought.
Toshinori grabbed the door knob.
Wonder what I will find on the other side of this door, he thought. Whatever it is, it has to be better then getting beat up by an old man every day.
Toshinori opened the door and found himself looking straight into the intense eyes of the red-haired boy from the entrance exam.
"Hi," Toshinori said.
The red-haired boy simply crossed his arms and continued staring at Toshinori.
Toshinori gulped and looked around the classroom to see if he recognized any of his future classmates.
Yamada was sitting in the back next to Shota. He gave Toshinori a thumbs up. The girl with blond hair Toshinori had saved waved at him from one of the middle seats. Shota, sitting next to Yamada, gave Toshinori a raised eyebrow then continued watching the world through his familiar bored expression. From him, that must have the equivalent of a loud cheer on the enthusiasm scale.
Toshinori looked for an empty seat. He got a sinking feeling as he scanned the room without finding one.
Anywhere but there. Anywhere but next to the red-haired kid.
Toshinori finally looked and confirmed to his dismay that a desk to the right of the red-haired kid was indeed the only empty desk remaining. It seemed that he was going to have to make a new friend.
He is not a jerk. He is just intense, Toshinori reminded himself.
He walked up to the desk and sat down.
"Hi, I am Toshinori Yagi," Toshinori said holding out a hand.
The red-haired boy didn't take it. He glowered for a moment then spoke, "Enji Todoroki."
Remember what Master said. Even if the situation is hopeless keep smiling, he thought.
He pasted a wide grin on his face.
"Congratulations on passing the entrance exam," he said.
"You act as if the exam were a challenge worth mentioning," Enji said.
"Well, uh," Toshinori began then tried to think of a change of subject.
Enji's eyes seared the message into his retina that any further small talk was neither asked for nor welcome.
Those eyes are so scary, Toshinori thought.
"So who do you think our teacher is?" Toshinori asked.
"Look in front of us and find out for yourself," Enji said.
Toshinori turned to find the teacher slumped over a large desk at the front. Light snores reached his ears and he saw drool leaking from one corner of the teacher's mouth.
It took Toshinori a moment to realize what he was seeing, but when he did, he ducked behind his desk in terror and prayed that the teacher wouldn't open his eyes anytime soon and spot him.
"This is what U.A. thinks passes for a good teacher. How pathetic," Enji scoffed.
Toshinori flinched and watched the teacher like he thought the teacher might explode.
