"So what do you think Gran Torrino is going to do for today's hero class?" Yamada asked.
He was sitting at a table next to Shota with Toshinori and Emi sitting across from them. They were eating lunch in the cafeteria.
"Maybe he is going to have us fight him. That would help us work on not panicking," Emi said.
We should be so lucky. If training with Gran Torrino all summer taught me one thing, it is that something terrible is about to happen when gets the look on his face that he had yesterday, Toshinori thought.
He decided it would be better for his sanity if he just focused on the food. As usual, the rice was excellent. The chicken and pork on top were well seasoned and juicy.
"Come on, Shota. Tell us what you think," Yamada said, nudging Shota.
"I think short of telepathy none of us can guess what is crossing our teacher's mind. Trying to guess is just a useless exercise," Shota said.
"Speaking of crossing. Want to hear a joke?" Emi said, her face lighting up.
"No," Shota said.
Toshinori grinned.
"Sure," he said.
Shota shot him a dark look.
"Why did the chicken cross the road?"
"To become a chicken patty," Toshinori said.
Emi laughed.
"Good one. But no," She said. "Anyone else?"
She looked pointedly at Shota, but Shota just kept eating his lunch. He refused to look up or acknowledge the awkward silence.
"To get away from the slaughter house," Emi said.
She laughed along with Toshinori and Yamada.
Shota stood up.
"Hey now. The joke wasn't that bad," Emi said.
"I am going to the bathroom," Shota said.
Toshinori watched him go then spotted a familiar person entering the cafeteria.
"That is Mr. Gyaku. I didn't know teachers ate in the same cafeteria as students," Toshinori said.
Mr. Gyaku's head was moving from side to side as he walked. His eyes locked on Yamada and he carefully picked his way in between the tables.
"Mr. Hizashi, you wouldn't happen to know Mr. Aizawa is at the moment?" Mr. Gyaku asked.
"He just left to use the bathroom. Why?" Yamada asked.
"I need him to tell me if this is his quiz," Mr. Gyaku said, holding up a piece of paper.
"No need to ask him. I know what his handwriting looks like. Let me see it," Yamada said.
Mr. Gyaku handed the paper to Yamada. As he did, his elbow knocked in to Shota's glass and spilled it.
"I am sorry," he said.
"No problem," Toshinori said.
He grabbed a few napkins and dried the table off.
"There wasn't much left in it anyway," he said.
"This is not Shota's. Shota's got much neater writing then this," Yamada said.
"Ok, thank you," Mr. Gyaku said.
He turned to go.
"Don't you need the quiz back?" Yamada asked.
"Oh, right," Mr. Gyaku said.
